Skills

  • Multi-disciplinary planned maintenance management approach which includes coming up with an effective master schedule for planned maintenance of the following plant equipment:
  • Process pumps, control valves, pump boxes, delivery lines and storage tanks
  • Hydraulic rams press and the power pack and DC valves
  • Crushers, chutes and conveyors, pulleys and drive mechanism
  • Ball mills and the drive train arrangement
  • Pressure Leach Autoclaves inspections and service that included huge agitators and drive gearboxes service
  • Burgmann Mechanical Seals serves and re-kiting Boiler inspections and service that included Boilers annual overhauls and hydraulic pressure testing
  • Expansion project management, capex and working cost budget management and effective costs control plan
  • Managing Continual Improvement Plan and subordinates developmental plan to uplift engineering standards and curb re-work
  • Ensuring implementation of effective planned and corrective maintenance system that is value adding thereby realizing reduction of costly breakdowns
  • Ensuring that mandatory inspection of critical equipment like pressure vessels and lifting equipment and critical structural integrity tests and transformer maintenance are effectively carried out and adhered to
  • Ensuring enforcement of Safety, Health and Environment implementation by cultivating a culture that observes and understands Risk Assessment to be the first step to take before carrying out any work related activity both at work and outwork premises in our day to day lives
  • I enjoy planning and believe that targets are easily met by the one who plans properly without stressing and usually at very minimum cost

Resolved failure problem on mechanical seals (Burgmann Seals) for Pressure Leach Autoclaves agitators that had blown the annual budget for the year 2000 in less than two months which proved too costly to maintain as these were being re-kited in South Africa. I designed a tool to re-kit them ourselves successfully and trained the maintenance team on how to re-kit using the designed re-kiting tool. Achieved a merit award for myself and the team., Improved the packing arrangement for the warman and envirotech pumps a move that enabled the department to reduce downtime drastically as the original design would need one to remove part of the volute entirely to be able to work on the stuffing box of the pumps. Availability of the pumps improved and high production started to be realized. Achieved a merit award for this innovative approach as the constriction arrangement on the pumps is by design., Was seconded to the Concentrator Plant in 2003 after the department had a record of breakdowns that drove the entire organization into serious cash flow problems due to reduced production levels. Since I was running the Refinery plant that had an excellent externally audited maintenance system as per our Quality Assurance (QA) ISO-9000 standard requirement the senior management seconded me to the Concentrator plant. In 5-6 months’ production targets were met exceedingly and bonuses were awarded., In 2004 after a year at Concentrator still with BNC, I was Re-called back to Refinery because of numerous plant equipment breakdowns in this department. The reason was that the workforce tended to ignore planning and relaxed on monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) until such a time things were out of control which led to resorting to Fire Fighting. This problem was serious due to Refinery being the processing plant for the final product. I went back to Refinery with all the confidence to turn things around and it was up and running in 6 – 8 months. Was awarded a merit award and made a name within the organization.

GREATEST REGRET

It is regrettable to note that we live in a world with such incredible pressure to succeed, with so many demands for ourselves to survive especially the working class that more often than not, our hopes and dreams become casualties. In 2000 – 2001 my Degree programme registered with British Council of Engineers through the University of Zimbabwe was abandoned when we were almost getting to the final year because of the problems that were beyond our control. However, the knowledge gained during the best part of the course that I had attended made a tremendous difference in resolving engineering related issues at my work place. I am proud to mention that through diligence, well focused ambitions and perseverance I am achieving my goals continuously with the divine intervention, since those who seek from God with faith above all odds will be catered for.
