I have been Blade smithing/knife making for about 2 years. The machines i operate to make knives include: 2x72 inch belt sander, Milling machine, Bandsaw, and a Forging press. I just recently enrolled in the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) which contains 3 levels of expertise, Apprentice, Journeyman, and Mastersmith. I am currently an apprentice smith, and can apply for the Journeyman testing in 2-3 years.
I made tools and machines which required welding like a 5 ton electric log splitter hydraulic press. I turned an electric log splitter into a forging press which required me to weld a frame out of i-beam and mount the log splitter to it.
I also have 2 other side hobbies that are leather working and smoking pipe making. Initially I made leather items such as wallets, purses and computer satchels, but now I mainly create leather sheaths for my knives. I only make smoking pipes as a challenge to see how well I can make them, and then gift them away.
