-Teach a minimun15 TLE in HIM each Fall and Spring Semester

-Utilize various software applications such as MS Office, Brightspace LMS, Zoom, Anthology, Curriculog, AHIMA Virtual Lab, Connect and Mindtap with and without DEI fee for course materials. Banner, Banner Navigate, and Degree works, are utilized for advising and Curriculog is used for the Curriculum Committee documents

-Serve on Various Departmental and College Wide Committees

-Promote Kindness and Inclusion throughout the college

-Develop Curriculum in adherence to AHIMA's 2018 Curriculum Requirements

-Assist program director in maintaining CAHIIM accreditation for the HIM program

-Serve as a Master Advisor for the college and promote academic retention and completion.

-Support the mission of the college in helping to transform the lives of our students and the communities we serve by providing innovative and creative opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve.

  • Taught various HIM courses both online and on-ground. Taught the first HIM class offered at DSCC. Taught a medical transcription program as well as HIM courses to include: Coding courses, Legal Aspects of Healthcare, Healthcare Statistics, Management as well as Disease Processes.
  • Scored exams and graded student performance fairly.
  • Advised students in academic matters to improve successful course completion.
  • Used the LMS to keep accurate records of students' attendance and grades.
  • Designed and delivered class instruction to meet course competencies.
  • Evaluated and selected instructional materials and texts to prepare course materials and lesson plans.

Was responsible for all areas of the HIM department including medical transcription and medical staff services. During my employment the department implemented a new transcription system, kept outstanding coding accuracy as demonstrated by outside reviewers (Laguna), maintained a positive relationship with the medical staff, decreased AR days and had very positive Joint Commission Surveys.

Screening Healthcare Coordinator

Responsible for screening medical records through contract with Medicare. We performed chart review for medical necessity, DRG validation, quality care screening and trending and utilization review.

  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes and AHIMA competencies. Perform assessment on outcomes and make any changes to curriculum annually.
  • Focus on student retention by helping students reach their academic, personal and career goals.
  • Foster a safe learning environment that respects diversity and promotes kindness by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. This is also incorporated in Academic Advising and connecting positive Mindset with academic success.
  • Experience with CAHIIM Accreditation. Currently use AHIMA VLab.
  • Experience with online teaching and Brightspace LMS
