Work History

Polysomnographer

Cox Health Systems
08.2005 - Current
  • The first 3-4 years I worked as a night tech in which I did patient intake, Which included adult and pediatric patients, and would perform a complete polysomnogram hook-up on them and then acquire a full PSG collection that would range from a diagnostic study all the way to treating them with PAP therapy. This could include CPAP, BiPAP, AVAPS, ASV, and or oxygen therapy. After the completion of the study I would then discuss with the patient or patient's caregivers what their next steps would be and answer any questions or concerns they might have.
  • I was then brought onto the day shift to be the Acclimation Specialist. I played a pivotal role in helping to initiate and implement this program by presenting the program to the director, writing Policies and Procedures, and the Acclimation protocols. This was a very time intensive position in which time management had to be utilized when working with the patients and completing their programs. One on one care was given to patients while helping them to acclimate to new equipment and treatments to provide them with a better quality of life. Strong communication and listening skills were very critical with this role as well, as I would not only have to communicate and work with the patient but with their DME company and the Doctor they were seeing for their specific sleep disorder. I would work with the DME and the Doctor to get new orders, equipment, treatments, and studies ordered.
  • After about a year as the Acclimation Specialist I was asked to take the role of a daytime scorer performing QA on all of the night time PSGs, HST's and outside PSGs from other facilities that were performed. This position also required working directly with our Doctors to get the appropriate outcome of the procedure that had been ordered as well as generating accurate reports. This would mean working in various computer programs and utilizing several software applications. Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point are just some of the programs used. I have had to learn and adapt to using several different computer programs / software throughout my time as a polysomnographer which include, Sandman, SomnoStar, Alice, Embla, NightOne, Nox, etc. I have helped in creating and maintaining templates for the Doctor's interpretation reports. Improved the quality of studies being performed by helping with training, guidance, explaining scoring rules and protocols. I archive completed studies, retrieve and assign needed studies for our Doctors. Overall, I have been involved in almost every aspect of the sleep center at some point.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Skilled at working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
  • Work well in a team setting, providing support and guidance.
  • Assisted with day-to-day operations, working efficiently and productively with all team members.
  • Manage time efficiently in order to complete all tasks within deadlines.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Learned and adapted quickly to new technology and software applications.
