I started out at Subaru as a Production Associate, working in the Trim & Final Assembly department on an individual team, where we started the initial build of the painted body of the car. I worked in this team environment for 10.5 years as an Associate Relief Operator (ARO) before accepting a Team Leader position in October 2002. I moved around in our Trim & Final Assembly department as a Team Leader to learn the different teams and areas, which include the installation of every part that goes on the painted body of the vehicle until it is driven off the end of the assembly line. (harnesses, seat belts, airbags, glass, tires, seats, front/rear suspension, inspection, etc.) I accepted a temporary assignment in January 2008 for a quality position in our Trim & Final department during their new model development. This assignment was to focus on countermeasure activity for the quality issues in the department, report to upper management, and coordinate all containment activity for the quality issues identified outside of the department. This assignment ended in April 2009, as help was needed back on the assembly line as a Production Team Leader. In August 2010, I was asked to be a Fundamental Skills Trainer for the Trim & Final Assembly Department. This position I accepted would bring in and fully train all new full-time and temporary workers, giving them all of the necessary skills needed to ensure success on the assembly line. In addition to training, the focus is on associate follow-up and quality, as I had previously done before.
I was able to work with several of our Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers over several years through the Manufacturing Quality and Fundamental Skills Training role.
I was able to visit multiple facilities as a 'fresh set of eyes,' and work with them in areas where help was most needed.
Several areas were audited, and countermeasures were suggested for improvement.
