• Maintained efficiency and accuracy of results by performing quality control, routine maintenance and troubleshooting on instruments. Instrument maintenance includes Biomerieux's Vitek MS, Vitek 2, BACT/Alert Virtuo, Cepheid, Biofire, and ABI 7500.
• Proficient in open system molecular (ABI 7500), closed system molecular (cepheid and biofire), and routine bacteriology (urines, R&M, and bloods/sterile body fluid).
• Facilitated smooth transitions during technology upgrades by assisting with validation/verification studies, user training, and documentation updates.
• Organized and managed the richmond VAMC's fall clinical microbiology rotation as the clinical coordinator for VCU CLS students. Duties include scheduling, introducing the students to the workflow and practice of a clinical microbiology lab, providing a laboratory foundation for students to apply their class theory, grading/creation of assignments, and providing feedback to VCU about student progress and deficiencies.

Accessioning:

• Scanned samples into the lab for testing
• Sorted samples for various departments
• Processed samples for any send out testing

Microbiology:

• Performed molecular testing on Cepheid and Biofire (patient and QC)
• Processed culture orders by plating on appropriate solid and liquid media
• Prepared gram stains for technologist review
• Performed manual MRSA agar testing, fecal leukocytes, and C. diff testing.
