My daughter was born brain insults. She has multiple parts of her brain that never fully developed. Through the heart breaking but rewarding experience of taking care of my child with special needs. I unofficially became a speech, physical, occupational,ABA therapist. The blessing of my daughter helped develop my natural caregiving instincts and spirit. I come with the understanding that this is hard work. I have 17yrs of experience of working with children that have speech delays(non-verbals), fine & gross motor delays, stimming, processing delays, and hypotonia. Emotionally and physically, I come already prepared to do the job. I again, have over 17yrs of partnering with doctors, therapist, teachers(IEPs), social workers, parents, documenting seen behaviors, first aide and medicine management.
As I close, this a career change for me but not a life style change. I would be so grateful to start earning a salary for my purpose in life. You are getting a person who holds himself accountable, loves kids, an active listener, a keen observer and is a compassionate professional.
My hobby is being an Aquarist (a fish keeeper). I have 11 running fish tanks in my home. I house and breed African and South American Cichlids. I also enjoy learning about the brain and neuroscience. Any chance I get, usually on my commute to work. I will listen to leadership books or inspirational speakers. A couple of my favorite authors/speakers on leadership and inspiration are Dr. Myles Monroe, Jocko Willink, Dr.Carol S. Dweck, Simon Sinek, Les Brown, and John C Maxwell.
