Work History

Retail Fixture Designer/Industrial Designer

Contracted through the insights global agency I worked for Samsung Electronics as a retail fixture designer/ industrial designer. During my contract with Samsung my duties and responsibilities consisted of:

  • Conceptualize designs of retail fixtures for the Samsung Flagship Store Fixture Suite, designs of experiential experiences, designs of pop-up store structures and fixtures, design visual merchandising fixtures and layouts, design floor layouts for flagship stores, new stores, and in-store opportunities. Through the design process of rounds of sketches to building 3d models and create renderings to ultimately creating presentations to present to all relevant staff and management to approve designs all within tight deadlines. Within the design process I would have to choose materials, and finishes to keep inline with the approved Samsung design language for the Flagship store.
  • Worked with the Retail Development team to ensure a smooth transition from concept to production-ready assets by creating 2d cad drawings of fixture designs using CAD and adobe creative suite to communicate with vendors on fabrication to trouble shoot any issues that arise, and to QC through the prototype phase.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing and higher management to create 3d visualization renderings used for presentations to help sell in new retail development projects, and visual merchandising layouts, and store fixture layout explorations.
  • Responsible for developing the 3d library and New 3d workflow for retail fixtures, retail stores, pop-ups, and experiential design opportunities. 3d workflow meant to streamline the modelling process and have shareable models within various scenes.

Creative Project Manager / Retail Fixture Designer

Blackhawk network is a subsidiary of silverlake financial which is a gift card retailer. During my tenure at blackhawk network I was accountable for the following:

  • Conceptualize designs of retail fixtures to place into retail store environments to sell in Blackhawk's gift card product and services. Always with volume of gift cards in mind the challenges of designing fixtures to fit negotiated retail space and to maximize the volume of product while having storage and signage while still being aesthetically pleasing and brand designing; fitting, the retailers design language. This is done with rounds of sketches and meetings with my director to ensure viable solutions.
  • Create presentations of design concepts and present to stakeholders and partners all involved within the project. Creating 3d models and renderings and placing them within a cohesive presentation and present to the group to eventually come to a final solution to take to production.
  • Develop CAD drawings and presentations for external manufacturing vendors. Kickoff meetings to discuss with vendors the scope of the design, finishes, function, and possible problems to engineer through.
  • As Creative Project Manager I was the key stake holder for the project taking full accountability and being the point of contact with external vendors and internal upper management. With the vendors I would QC and problem solve through the prototype phase till the final approved solution. And QC the manufacturing phase by visiting the warehouse and physically pulling fixtures from the line and making sure its made to spec. Finally I would watch the process and even help out through the delivery phase to make sure a smooth delivery. All of this while managing expectations and presenting progress to all stakeholders.

Senior Industrial Designer / Retail Fixture Designer

Napa Wooden Box is a privately owned company manufacturing wine boxes for the wine and spirits industry. I was brought into to further develop the design portion of the company to bring in house industrial design, graphic design, production art, and help build aesthetically the companies appearance and capabilities. During my time at NWB my day to day involved:

  • Design of point of purchase displays for wine and spirits, seasonal merchandising displays, design artwork for wine boxes, help to design out the website and all social media presence. Through sketches I would come up with a few design options and build 3d models to create renderings for presentations which would be used to compete with other vendors to bid for the project. Researched materials, processes, and technologies to recommend cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Engineered the POP displays for in-house manufacturing for wood construction and external vendors for metal and plastic. Creating clear and exact CAD drawings were always imperative to communicate collaborate with various vendors on one project. Collaborated with in-house wood fabricators teams to develop prototypes and test samples for various projects.
  • Graphic design of artwork to take direction from clients to develop a look for their gift boxes. Brand designing keeping a cohesive design language with the wine box. I would also have to create cut sheets and artwork for dies to burn in the artwork accurately on to match the designs.
  • Given some project management duties as well I Conducted physical tests on prototypes to evaluate performance and identify potential issues before production launch. Provided technical support during the manufacturing process by troubleshooting any problems encountered during production runs. Performed detailed inspections of finished products to verify conformance with quality standards. Identified areas of improvement in current processes through root cause analysis and corrective action plans.

Purchase Point Design is a privately owned company that worked as an agency providing designs for POP displays and using external manufacturers to produce the displays. My role at PPD consisted of:

  • Design creative concepts of POP/POS displays for various brands and provided presentations to prospective clients. Through sketch ideation to come up with several solutions I would then develop 3d models and renderings to put into a presentation the director would present.
  • Brand design keeping each concept inline with the brand design and fit the narrative of the marketing plan for the season and product.
  • Created CAD models of components and assemblies to ensure manufacturability of the product designs.
  • Researched materials, processes, and technologies to recommend cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Created visualizations of concept designs using computer graphics tools such as Cinema 4d and the creative suite

The Argonaut is a privately owned company that contracts with apple to create 3d models, 3d renderings, animations, CAD layouts for fixtures and merchandise. My responsibilities involved:

  • Created 3D models of fixtures, environments, and products for renderings the Apple Marcom group would use for visual merchandising guidelines to share with 3rd party stores and In-store contracts.
  • Established a 3D modeling / rendering workflow and file management system that would be shareable with various 3d artist worldwide and always up to date to help combat tribal knowledge, gatekeeping of model history.
  • Rendered realistic images for product simulations visual merchandising standards and fixture placement standards used in documentation for presentations that kept a cohesive design aesthetic.
  • Produced 3D animations of walk throughs of retail spaces.
  • Implemented lighting, shading, and texturing techniques into the workflow process.

Contracted through the Creative Circle Job Agency to work with Levis Strauss Jeans as a 3d designer to help roll out visualizations of concepts for the seasonal merchandising market for in-store fixture layouts. At Levis I was tasked to:

  • Created a library of 3D models and environments of various retail concepts of Levis product and fixtures within a retail space such as Macy's or Kohl's.
  • Worked with the visual merchandising team of Levi's Strauss to create visual renderings of store layouts. I visualized concepts for seasonal highlighted merchandising displays as well as fixture layouts, product layout, signage, and signage layouts.
  • Created high-quality visuals to be used in marketing materials.
  • Rendered realistic images for product simulations.
  • Produced 3D animations from motion capture data.
  • Implemented lighting, shading, and texturing techniques into the workflow process.

Elevations Inc. was a privately owned company that would supply from overseas merchandising objects, furniture, seasonal supplies, retail fixtures and displays. I was tasked to:

  • Conceptualize designs of retail furniture and fixtures for the display of product within department store environments. These designs were based on briefs provided by clients that we would interpreted and compete with other vendors to win the production bid. Keeping with trends and researching new material finishes and hardware to always to be forward thinking and contemporary and consistent with the design brief while brand designing being aware of the clients brand design language.
  • Besides designing for competitive bids, We also designed out our own furniture/ fixture suite for presentation at exhibits to show design capabilities, manufacturing capabilities as well as quality of fit and finish.
  • Sketched concepts and worked the director to finalize possible solutions for presentations using cinema 4d for 3d models and renderings to talk through the presentations.
  • Collaborated with fabrication companies in Asia to engineer and develop prototypes and test samples for various projects and Elevation owned furniture/fixture designs. Provided CAD drawings to show detail of the designs and possible construction, and technical support plus QC during the manufacturing process by troubleshooting any problems encountered during production runs.
