I was hired by West Metro Fire Rescue in August of 2001. The fire apprenticeship lasted for 3 years. Following that I went through Paramedic School in 2004, where I became a Colorado State Certified Paramedic. I held the Paramedic certification until January of 2015, when I lowered my certification to EMT-B. My time as a firefighter was divided between being on an ambulance and working on a fire engine. Driving ambulances and Type 3 and Type 6 fire engines was part of my job.

For a period of 7 years, I was a member of the West Metro Wildland Team. It is a team that travels the country assisting with active wildland fires. During the same time, I headed the chainsaw maintenance/training program based out of the Wildland Station. In 2024 after 23 years online as a firefighter, I transitioned into a day position in the Life Safety Division. There I attained my International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector 1 & 2, and State of Colorado Fire Inspector 1 & 2. In this position, my job is conducting inspections of new construction and remodeling projects where fire alarm or fire sprinkler systems are being installed, changed, or repaired. All inspections are based off of NFPA standards (typically NFPA 72, 13, 24) IFC, and IBC.

Starting in January of 2025, I began training with West Metro's Fire Investigation Unit. I completed the 40-hour Fundamentals of Fire Investigation class through the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) to attain my FIT Certification. I continue to gain experience and education in that field.
