After a brief successful stint at a great firm, I accepted an opportunity to return to York Excavating Company, and build my own estimating department from the ground up.

• Responsible for hiring and training of team members.
• Manage a department of five estimators, overseeing the bid schedule, bid log, bid reviews, development of final bid price, completion of all required bidding documents, and timely submission of the bid.
• Manage private construction project bid follow process and award negotiations.
• Manage contract negotiations, contract terms, duration, scope, and am responsible for final contract execution.
• Manage bid bond and contractual P&P bonding process, as well as insurance certificate process for all private and public contracts.
• Responsible for projecting workload forecast, and ensuring sufficient backlog of work is maintained at all times.
• Manage turnover of projects to operations, ensuring they know the project parameters, client and schedule expectations, cost, scope, and notable exclusions and clarifications.
• Maintain team morale and productivity by knowing and understanding my team, their individual personalities, their core values, their strengths and weaknesses.
• Maintain a focused, structured environment within the department, built on trust, strong work ethics, comradery, and teamwork.
• Network to maintain existing customers, and development of future customers.

After much thought I made this move because YEC went through an ownership change and restructuring/significant downsizing. Having just bought a house I felt I needed a more stable situation to raise my family.

• Assisted in coordinating project schedules and deliverables.

• Prepared accurate cost estimates for many different types of site development projects, often times working on several estimates simultaneously, which were all at varying stages of the the preconstruction bidding process.
• De-scoped subcontractor and vendor proposals ensuring compliance with plans and specifications.
• Developed communication and sales skills with vendors, trade partners, and clients.
• Implemented an extensive estimating software system (B2W).
• Developed skills necessary to concisely explain critical estimate components and tasks to upper management, project managers, and superintendents.
• Established myself as the go to estimator within the company, responsible for getting our highest profile projects, while maintaining our largest clients trust and business.

• Ran haul trucks and rollers as part of larger site grading crew.
• Installed sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and waterline pipe and fittings.
• Installed sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and waterline structures.
• Fine graded for curbs and asphalt/concrete pavement areas.
• Excavated and backfilled building foundation systems.
• Lead small four man crew installing roof drains, services, and excavating and backfilling building foundation systems.
• Became very familiar with crew compositions, and production time frames for many tasks within the site development industry.

• Further developed my blue print reading skills.
• Learned how to perform quantitative analyses for earthwork, utility, and paving installation.
• Gained extensive experience with Agtek earthwork software program.

• Mixed and supplied mortar for masons.
• Unloaded brick cubes and dispersed them to each mason station.
• Supported mason's general needs with tools and supplies.
• Kept job site neat and orderly.
