Transportation Clerk-Shipping & Receiving

3M
Knoxville
06.2021 - 03.2023
  • My duties in this position were primarily processing outgoing orders in transportation. This included verifying the data provided by production reporting, and the shipping dock.
  • Often, troubleshooting was necessary to provide the corrections needed when discrepancies presented themselves.
  • An important role of the position was to reconcile discrepancies in billing, shipped quantities, or investigate damaged freight, and communicate the findings to the proper departments for replacement or refund of products, as well as following up with carriers, warehouses, and freight forwarders to resolve lost or damaged freight.
  • I managed the tasks of setting up shipments, both international and domestic, for outbound goods and scrap, using the 3M transportation platform, and maintaining contact with the proper resources to do so.
  • This also involved helping transportation carriers by correcting, verifying, and providing information required on both inbound and outbound shipments.
  • I was integral in providing alternate shipping methods and expedites on short notice due to truck capacities, or urgent customer needs.
  • I assisted Customer Service Representatives and Customers in providing the quickest shipment available to avoid lines-down situations with our customers.
  • I saw the entire process through from communication with our scheduling team for supplies and machine run time, to machine production, continued through the process until it left our facility and then providing up to date tracking information of the urgent shipment.
  • I performed all the clerical duties of this position by preparing the proper forms (BOLs, etc.) and keeping up with the filing and retention of paper and digital records.
  • I am proficient with the use of many 3M programs in addition to more commonly used Microsoft (office, word, excel, teams, etc.), Workday, Concur, email and scheduling systems.
  • I skillfully managed to keep the process flowing smoothly in the fast-paced multitude of daily tasks, as well as managing drivers coming and going with shipments to and from the facility, our warehouse personnel, and hundreds of emails, phone calls, and messages each day.
  • I am highly proficient in these duties and more, and I continue to enjoy learning more from the job and my coworkers each day.
  • I am experienced in the use, shipping, and clean-up/disposal of Hazmat from my production use of chemicals used in 3M’s processes, in addition to skills used on our Emergency Response Team.
  • Received incoming shipments and reviewed the contents against the purchase order for accuracy when needed to fill in.
  • Investigated return freight to determine damage, shipping issues, or errors, and reshipped properly and successfully.

  • Billing Clerk/Shipping office. This entailed billing all 'pieces' prior to being loaded on trucks and leaving the warehouse to each store and preparing paperwork for each stop on all truck routes.
  • Also investigating any counts that were incorrect and tracking down the mistake and correcting it.
  • I had to possess strong communication skills with the order fillers and the drivers in the event we ran close to loading time with orders being picked.
  • Remaining calm under the pressure of a driver who wanted loaded and out of the warehouse was a skill I had to acquire and became more comfortable with over time.
