I began my journey in higher education with the dream of becoming a professional artist. I earned a BFA (concentrating in painting and sculpture) from the University of Memphis.
Eventually, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career that could incorporate my diverse interests and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth.
I decided to return to the University of Memphis and attend graduate school in order to obtain a MAT and TN Pre K-3rd teaching licensure. I wanted to become an early childhood educator. I hoped that I could combine my love of creative expression, animals/nature, as well as my desire to help educate and mentor young children in order to make a positive impact on future generations. At the end of my graduate program, I was asked to become Lipman School's first Atelierista (art teacher). I organized, scheduled, and carried out Lipman School’s first art program. I partnered with classroom teachers to extend their students learning through the incorporation of art into their project work and explorations. I worked with children ages 2-5 in small groups.
The next year I accepted the three-year-old Reggio Emilia Inspired classroom's supervising teacher position. I served in this position for 7 years. I then accepted the position in the four-year-old Reggio Emilia inspired classroom. This is the classroom I am currently teaching in as a supervising teacher.
