AZ- Aviation Maintenance Admin
Aviation Maintenance Administrationman (AZ) in the U.S. Navy performs a wide range of technical, administrative, and logistical duties in direct support of the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program. AZs are responsible for ensuring that aircraft maintenance records, documentation, and data are accurate, complete, and readily accessible to support safe and effective flight operations. AZs prepare aircraft and maintenance-related correspondence, maintain directive control, and manage custody records, control forms, and required reports for the squadron or maintenance activity. They organize and maintain files on departmental organization, manning, personnel temporary additional duty (TAD), transfers, and training requirements, helping leadership track qualifications and readiness. A core part of the AZ role is planning, programming, and coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks, as well as tracking the incorporation of changes and modifications to aircraft, aeronautical equipment, and support equipment. AZs coordinate squadron or activity maintenance reporting requirements and recommend changes to maintenance policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance. AZs also manage technical data and information systems by organizing, maintaining, and operating the Navy Aeronautical Technical Publications Library and any dispersed technical libraries. They operate the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System (NALCOMIS), inputting, verifying, and validating data related to aircraft configuration, maintenance, operation, and component history, and they maintain historical flight data and aviator records for the operations department. In addition, AZs provide administrative and logistical support to organizational, intermediate, and depot-level maintenance staff, helping to coordinate parts, documentation, and information flow across multiple work centers. Through meticulous recordkeeping and management of maintenance information systems, AZs contribute directly to aircraft readiness, safety, and overall squadron effectiveness.
