Work History

Sergeant EMT-B/Firefighter

Camden County Fire Rescue
10.2021 - Current

I am employed as a Sergeant EMT/Firefighter with Camden County Fire Rescue. I am currently assigned to an engine as a firefighter and BLS provider. When assigned to an engine I function as a driver/operator. In the role of driver/operator it is my responsibility and role to complete general maintenance, care, operation, and maintenance of the fire apparatus I am assigned to. I am responsible for structural and wildland fire protection, technical rescue operations, water supply, search and rescue, ventilation, and other emergencies. When riding as the officer in charge on a fire apparatus, I assist the organization of the shift training and provide technical oversight to assigned firefighters. Assist in daily operation of the fire department. Act as Officer when responding to fire and EMS incidents to contain/extinguish fires and/or assist in other emergency medical activities. Evaluate emergency situations and confer with others in order to determine the necessity of additional firefighting companies. Assuming initial company officer roles and command upon arrival to emergency situations and completing initial company officer duties (ex. Performing scene size-ups to identify possible hazards and risk assessment techniques, establishing command, making initial company operation tactical decisions, and etc.). I make decisions with the selection of proper equipment (hoses, nozzles, foam equipment, pumps, axes, hydraulics, etc) and its use in fighting various types of fires. I supervise subordinate personnel; communicate effectively orally and in writing; exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. When leading training evolutions, I train the following operations but not limited to: drafting operations from static water sources (ex. Dry hydrants, turbo drafts, and dump tank operations),structural and wildland fire suppression techniques, hose movement into a structure, search and rescue techniques, and etc. When assigned to an ambulance I respond to medical emergencies and motor vehicle accidents involving illness and injury. Upon arrival to the emergencies, I make an assessment of the patient(s) upon patient contact. A physical examination is conducted to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury. As necessary, I will perform BLS procedures depending on the condition of the patient. All procedures completed are within my scope of practice and may require the use of standing orders and medical protocols to properly stabilize the patient(s).
