  • Tasks included but were not limited to, administration of pre-medication to patients using administration routes such as intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous, and induction of anesthesia with controlled substances.
  • Skills such as endotracheal intubation (on various animal species), gastric tube placement, intravenous catheter placement and maintenance, induction and maintenance of anesthesia on patients, worked within a sterile surgical/ophthalmological environments, monitored the patient while under anesthesia, aiding the surgeon in any instructed way, and recovered the patient.
  • Member of the Surgery/Ophthalmology training team for 2 years and during that time instructed trainees on the skills listed above.
  • Responsible for recognizing an animal welfare issue with a procedure and working with the surgeon and veterinary staff to formulate a plan, this led to the issue being rectified and the welfare of the animal being in a better state than before.
  • Prepared and assisted in a critical role during a surgical procedure. Work consisted of preparing surgical fields, preparing patients for surgery, anticipating surgeon needs, anesthesia and vital monitoring, verification of dose amounts and dose calculations, ensuring patient recovery, collaboration with surgeons on surgical sing, and maintaining clear and consistent communication with the Study Director. The work was published in a Charles River Laboratories poster and presented at Society for Neuroscience 2023.

  • Responsibilities included performing functions in a laboratory setting while maintaining GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) and performing the study as directed in protocols and the facilities SOP’s( Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Daily tasks were and not limited to measurement of animal diets, standard animal husbandry practices (nail trimming, animal room sanitization, supervised animal socialization and enrichment, et cetera), following strict dosing procedures, various sample collection routes, and working within a set schedule with a large team effectively and efficiently. During this time working with various animal species such as canine, swine, rodent, lagomorph, feline, non-human primate, and ungulate.
  • Responsible for recognizing an issue with animal food consumption data quality and forming a solution to change the animal home caging. This was accomplished by drafting up several versions and communicating and working with the welding and repair department. This solution led to a 21% reduction in erroneous food food consumption data.
