Analyze Internet Protocol – Captioned Telephone Service (IP-CTS) data and report accuracy and latency statistics to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC)

  • Use a combination of IOS, Android, and desktop phones to place and video record test calls using IP-CTS provider applications. Test calls are also placed and recorded using ACE Quill – a MITRE-developed, open-source test platform mobile caption phone prototype which incorporates Google and Watson’s Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) capabilities
  • Edit recorded test calls and Use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to convert video text into an editable text file
  • Compare text file to the original video test call, checking for accuracy, editing text file as needed
  • Collect timing information from test calls. This data is critical to analyzing the latency of IP-CTS and ASR services
  • Coordinate directly with IP-CTS providers to install and test new product offerings
  • Coordinate directly with MITRE’s TELECOM office to troubleshoot IP-CTS services

Analyze Videophone Relay Services (VRS) for video quality and interoperability between multiple videophone devices statistics to the FCC.

  • Place test calls between VRS provider equipment and MITRE-developed software, total of over 700 distinct combinations of endpoints per test run
  • Observe video quality, video mail capabilities, real-time text capabilities, and other features to verify interoperability between device types
  • Track provider and device interoperability test results to identify trends and provide visibility for interoperability issues

Work with team members to provide a better understanding of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community

  • Use SharePoint and Excel to share the documents with the team members and track the inventory of test equipment (over 100 pieces of equipment, distributed across sites in three states)
