Research Contributions

2015 Service Learning Project (Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy

Worked on a research project titled Brain Drain: Success Without the Heights which highlighted the effects of brain drain in smaller communities such as Boyle Heights. Conducted interviews and survey from over 1000 Boyle Heights residents and used ArcGIS to track down where they were living and saw if there was a connection between income and the community they were living in. Presented research at ESRI headquarters, as well as presented research to the 2015 Eastside Stories panel at Roosevelt High School.

La Experiencia Indigena YouTube Channel

La Experiencia Indigena is an ongoing YouTube project that seeking to tell the stories of indigenous immigrants, mainly Zapotec immigrants, and their life stories. La Experiencia Indigena hopes that by recording and documenting the experiences of indigenous immigrants, that it magnifies why many indigenous immigrants were forced traveled to United States in order to provide for their families back in their villages. It documents the struggles of immigrating to a new country without knowing English, and sometimes not knowing Spanish as well, and it illustrates the struggles to keep their cultural practices alive to their children who often want nothing to do with their indigenous past.

California State University, Los Angeles Digital Testimonios Project

The California State University, Los Angeles Digital Testimonios Project is an upcoming digital archive that seeks to record and document the stories of women of color. My contribution was documenting how indigenous women have to overcome misogyny and classism in their native lands as well as in United States.
