I work 10-30 hours a week as a paid intern in the Wang Lab. The Wang lab focuses on trying to understand the molecular mechanisms that drive disease initiation and therapy resistance in leukemia with the ultimate goal of developing new therapeutic strategies for leukemia and overcoming drug resistance in hematopoietic malignancies.

Cancer Starts With Can is a platform I created where kids with cancer and their parents can go to learn more about cancer itself and receive advice from numerous physicians and survivors. Through interviews with doctors and researchers in the field of oncology, along with cancer patients and survivors themselves, Cancer Starts with Can aims to shed light on the experiences of others and give valuable advice and direction to those in need. Along with our podcast, CSWC is starting a literary magazine for kids with cancer. This magazine will publish and print a book of cancer patients' and survivors' writing and artwork four times a year. Seeing their work online and in print will bring a sense of pride and purpose to the children, providing them with an outlook to express their feelings and fears. When I had cancer, drawing, and writing were two of the biggest ways I was able to unwind and soothe my nerves at the hospital. I believe the CSWC literary magazine will hold the same power for the kids that come after me, giving them both a way to unleash their feelings and a place in which they can regain their power and voice. All in all, CSWC aims to be a hub of resources and a beacon of hope for pediatric cancer patients and their families as they navigate the most difficult of challenges.

After being a wish kid, I was appointed to be an Ambassador for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. In this role, I help raise awareness for the organization and do outreach to donors and other survivors of illnesses to gain more support for Make-A-Wish.
