I currently work as a Honors Peer Mentor a the SLCC Honors Program. I have been participated in different National and regional conferences in the last two years. I cohort and support Honor students to keep them updated in the Honors requirement, and we encourage them to participate in other Enrichment experiences and High Impact Practices available inside and outside SLCC.
I have also the support to improve my writing skills to work in my own short stories projects. I was able to be accepted at FOLIO 2022, with the story "The land of Hunters' Stories: The White Panther."
I was a volunteer at the Student Writing & Reading Center (SWRC) at Salt Lake Community College during Fall 2021. I could interact directly with student who request assistance with writing assignments, platform designs, project's research, etc.
The work inspired me to start a project that consists on determined thorough a student survey the effectiveness of the tutoring session, especially for ESL students. The project was in collaboration with Clint Gadner, the Director of Student Writing & Reading Center (SWRC). The project was a the beginning to understand what kind of aspects the students consider "successful" in a tutoring session. We find the tutor's interesting preparation to adjust to the student;ts specific need provides the tools to complement the Undeclared student's learning gap.
It was an educative and unique experience where I also learned tutoring/mentoring sessions are as important as the class itself, because it provide the space to decide if the major is the right one of it it lack connection with it.
