Alongside of having jobs, I was also able to create a small business of mine on the side.
I'd like to introduce it as " Treats By Mae", I specialize in custom desserts such as cakes, cake pops, and dessert table treats. I've been baking since 2020 as a hobby and seen potential in my growth so I turned it into a business.
I would say that I was always a Keiki Entrepreneur ever since 5th grade. I had the opportunity to volunteer to compete for Lemonade Alley, a keiki business competition where students build/design a lemonade stand, create a business plan, and pitch our product to a live audience and all of our raised money goes towards a charity of our choice. We chose St. Jude Children's Hospital. Our team won and had our self-made drinks featured in Jamba Juice for the summer of 2016. We also had the chance to speak on KITV's morning news segment.
Fast forward 8 years (2024), I got chosen from the sponsors of " Keiki Rise", a program that is empowering young entrepreneurs and hosting workshops to teach us more about running a business and managing one. We also have the chance to have Makeke Pop ups in popular areas like Ala Moana center, Pearlidge Mall, Windward Mall, and Royal Hawaiian Center.
In September of 2024, I had another opportunity to speak on a news segment for KHON2News.
I was able to present myself as a young entrepreneur as a baker on the news twice, which i'm really proud of.
Now I am working my way up to the top and present myself as a helpful baker. I've baked desserts for Halekulani Hotel, First Hawaiian Banks, and more to come!
I'm slowly but surely building more clientele & returning customers and want to make my business something bigger in the future like opening up my own bakery.
I've learned a lot of things from the 2 jobs I had and running a business on the side. Better communication and interactions, prioritizing customer satisfaction, being an active listener, and easily adapting.
