Summary

I believe to be an effective foreman you have to a strong understanding of the people around you and be able to empathize with them. That will allow you to understand what they are capable of as workers and be able to challenge them to be better team members and also have the ability to de-escalate tense situations. I am very familiar with the day to day of the street department and specifically the asphalt patching crew and what is required to make the work proceed smoothly and efficiently.

Work History

Heavy Equipment Operator

City Of Minot
Minot, ND
01.2011 - Current

I have operated all forms of equipment with the city of minot in the last 11 years of my employment. I started out on the garbage truck working tirelessly cleaning up our city and gaining my class B cdl and a year later transferred to the street department. I have since gained my class A cdl and tanker endorsements. I can operate a skidsteer, a front end loader, a mini excavator, rolling compactor, all the dump trucks and trailers we have available, the garbage trucks, sand trucks, motor grader in the winter removing the snow from the streets, and primarily use our cutting wheel to cut asphalt in the summer time to dig out old asphalt and prepare the site for the induction of new asphalt pavement. I am also proficient in traffic ordinances and setting up proper coning and sinage required for temporary work zones. I have gained many other skills over the years with the street department from running our range of pumps to displace water to a storm drain or use a forklift to manipulate trailers around the yard or other cargo. During our recent snowstorm in april I worked a 15 hour shift where I cleared a path for an ambulance in zero visibility so that they could make it to a hotel to assist a person having a medical emergency. Another instance of unusual circumstances would be cleaning up fallen trees after a wind storm with chainsaws and our chipper truck. Clearing debris from the roadway for commuters. I was also apart of the 16th st sw restoration project from 11th ave to 20 th ave by cvs. We milled and overlayed both northbound and southbound lanes all the while having cars speeding past us as people tend to do. Working on the street department is not just about using equipment there is a wide variety of skillsets needed and I learned them over the years from some amazing people.
