I have a background as an M.D. in Brazil. I graduated in 2002 and followed it with medical residencies in General Surgery and later Critical Care Medicine. After finishing my residency, I was hired to work full-time for one year as an instructor to teach, mentor, and supervise practical activities by medical students and residents. In 2009, I started working as a clinical faculty in different ICU units at Universidade de Sao Paulo and Sírio Libanes Hospital. I also served as an instructor and coordinator of training courses that included several invasive ultrasound-guided procedures for medical residents and physicians. I worked until July/2019, when I moved to the U.S. In my 11-year experience as an M.D. in Critical Care Medicine, I wrote several book chapters and was a co-author in a few manuscripts.
After moving to the U.S. with my family, it took me some time to start working due to visa restrictions. In January 2020, I was hired as a medical writer for Medical Boards Study Academy (MBSA), which offers courses for medical students and doctors in Brazil who want to take the medical boards exams in the U.S. and other countries. As an educational medical writer, I had to develop skills in synthesizing medical evidence, and objectively presenting data.
