  • Leading SHIPPINGPORT 2022 overhaul, supervising the modification, installation and subsequent testing of shipboard systems. Also assisting in daily duties, completion of WAF’s, daily tag out, timekeeping, project planning with FWP’s and 3M & SKED administration.
  • Responsible for all facets of the docking and undocking operations of SHIPPINGPORT (ARDM 4), including coordination with EB Naval Architects, divers, and carpenters, overseeing the block build, establishing docking points and coordinating necessary QA checks; ensuring all evolutions are conducted safely and within the facility’s operational parameters.
  • Prepares docking prints including the stability and buoyancy calculations and pumping plans.
  • Develops and oversees the execution of the SHIPPINGPORT preservation plan, including the supervision of assigned painters and janitor.
  • Serves as the drydock Training coordinator, responsible for preparing and ensuring the execution of the annual and quarterly training plans. Responsible for the mentoring and training of the Assistant Dockmaster in their quest to obtain FOS qualification.
  • Schedules and conducts Docking and Undocking conferences.
  • Briefs divers prior to the docking and supervised them during the docking evolution.
  • Verifies the readiness of the vessel and the dry-dock to support docking and undocking.
  • Directs the operation of the Auto Centering System during the docking and undocking of vessels.
  • A liaison with all levels of the Navy: i.e. Regional Support Group Groton (RSG), Naval Submarine Support Facility (NSSF), Ships Commanding Officers, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton, COMSUBFOR, NAVSEA, Naval Reactors, Naval Shipyards, SUBASE departments (Public Works, Cranes, Environmental).

  • At Department 797 we operate and perform maintenance on shipboard electrical systems and equipment such as: normal & emergency power distribution, lighting distribution, alarm and indications, HVAC, cathodic protection, motors, phone system, controllers & transformer.
  • Qualified on dry-dock systems as a Sound and Security Watch with knowledge of systems including fire main, sewage, service/control air, ballasting, electrical distribution, HVAC and Emergency Diesel Engine.
  • Assist in moving ships in and out of dry-dock and providing hotel services for the ship in dock. Prepare the dock for docking and undocking of Navy vessels.
  • Qualified as a Limited Radiation Worker.
  • Qualified to perform maintenance IAW the Navy’s 3M/PMS system and qualified tag out personnel.
  • Assist Dockmaster with docking and undocking operations including wood inventory, block inspection, block maintenance, preparing build according to the Naval Architect’s Engineering Report and naval docking prints.
