· PACU nurses continuously monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, airway, and breathing patterns, paying close attention to potential side effects from anesthesia, such as nausea, or complications like bleeding.
· Managing pain: They administer prescribed pain medications and anti-nausea treatments, ensuring patients are as comfortable as possible during their recovery.
· Airway management: Maintaining a stable airway is a priority. This can involve providing oxygen, assisting with mechanical ventilation, or performing interventions to ensure effective breathing.
· Educating patients: They are responsible for addressing patients’ questions and concerns, offering reassurance, and preparing them for the next steps in their care journey. Managing care plans.
· Admitting patients: PACU nurses admit patients’ post-surgery, often verifying consent and initiating the recovery process. Moving patients when clinically stable.
