I been a painter and a fabricator for 35 years. My duties as a painter and body technician is to disassemble bumpers, tail lights, door handles, glass, trim, and head lights. This process is to prep vehicle for paint. Any large damage as straightening frame, quarter panels, pillars, and front structure is done on a frame machine. To install new panels, as quarter panels a process of using a mig welder and 3M 08115 bonding panel adhesive is used. Any small or semi large dents can be repaired using a nail gun or a dent pulling machine. When the the metal work is complete, the area needs to be grind with 60grit disk and feather edge with 80 to 150 grit D/A sand paper before body filler is applied. After body filler is applied it must block sand with 80 and 150 grit long board sand paper. Areas to be primed need to be masked with paper and plastic sheeting to prevent overspray. 3/4 and 1 1/2 inch masking tape is used to secure paper and plastic sheeting. Door jambs, truck jambs, and hood jambs need to be properly masked to prevent overspray. Types of primers used are DTM Direct to metal and epoxy primers. DTM primer is used for areas of exposed metal for proper adhesion and rust protection. Epoxy primers are used for priming body fillers and areas that do not need DTM primer. Preparing areas that are primed are sanded with 320, 400, and 600 grit sand paper. When a vehicle is to be refinished complete, it can be sanded with 400 and 600 grit sand paper. After a vehicle is sanded, it needs to be blown with a air gun and washed. The vehicle is ready for the masking stage. Areas that are not to be painted as jambs need to be masked to prevent overspray. The vehicle can be refinished with signal stage and two stage paint. The paint I use is RM, PPG, Axalta, and Transtar. To mix these paints, a painter mixing system is used. The system consists of paint toners and a computer to weigh each color in ounces. Color chips are used to match the color. Two stage paint consists of a combination of base color and clear coat that dries to a gloss finish. I am knowledgeable in writing estimate. I use CC1 and Mitchell programs to write estimates. I work with insurance adjusters from Farmer's, State Farm, AAA, All State, and etc. As part of my experience, I've worked in the movie industry.
