1st-Year BA/MD Student with experience in research, including the handling and care of embryonic zebrafish. Experienced in the process of literature review, developing a procedure, and communicating findings through an academic paper and poster.
Investigated the safety of Selank, a peptide found to treat acute anxiety with similar efficacy to benzodiazepines. Embryonic zebrafish were exposed to several concentrations of Selank over the course of their development. An assessment of embryo growth and development found the complete lack of teratogenic effects caused by Selank.
Investigated the allelopathy of Amur Honeysuckle, an invasive shrub prevalent across Missouri. Soil was collected from environments containing Amur Honeysuckle, and the growth of several native grasses and shrubs was compared. All plants experienced reduced growth in Amur Honeysuckle soil, and no plants demonstrated an increased resistance to the allelopathic effects of Amur Honeysuckle.
