Work History

Senior Project Architect

Plan Architecture
05.2018 - Current

Upon, becoming licensed my responsibilities throughout the office grew to being the sole person to conduct comprehensive zoning reviews at the onset of all projects in the office, as well as, conducting all building code reviews for all construction documents. I also became the sole person in the office to handle and manage all Zoning and Planning board matters, as necessary, including communicating and coordinating with the necessary municipal and hired professionals.

During this time, I stepped back in my involvement in construction documentation side to step more into the role of being the lead designer on projects. My responsibilities as lead designer included going on project leads, securing the job, and then managing the projects from start to finish with the assistance of my team. During this time I had the direct oversight over a minium of 1-2 junior designers/interns and would assist in giving them work to build their skills. Even though I stepped back from being the draftsperson on construction documents, I maintained being the sole person to manage and produce construction documents for all Multi-family projects that came into the office.

As a senior member of the office I continued to contribute to the team through my continuance of managing office standards and reviewing design and construction documents. I also assisted in the hiring and training of new employees, setting and achieving project schedules, deadlines, and internal office milestones, and helping the office grow.

Project Manager

Plan Architecture
05.2015 - 05.2018

Building on my experience, I started to hone in my design skills and grew into managing projects under the direct supervision of the Principal. After the initial meeting, I would take over and would continue conducting design meetings on my own until an approved deign was reached. After that, I was responsible for putting together and completing the construction documents for said project. I would also start each project with a preliminary zoning review to ensure the design complied with applicable municipal zoning ordinances.

During this time, I also continued to help develop and maintain our developed company standards throughout the office as it grew. In doing this, I shared the responsibility of reviewing design and construction drawings and work done by my colleagues.

Junior Draftsman

Plan Architecture

Including my prior responsibilities as an intern, I started to sit in on design meetings and interact with clients to create conceptual sketches for review, assist in 3d design modeling, create both existing and proposed 2d elevations and sections, layout construction documents (including dimensioning, labeling, schedules, etc.), and assist in developing standards for the office.

Personal Life

Throughout my adult life, I have found it very important to maintain a good balance between work and home life. First and foremost, I enjoy spending time with my family. Regardless of whether we are staying at home or going out and going for a hike, quality time with them is very important to me. I also remain very active through means of playing team sports, various methods of exercise, hiking, surfing, snowboarding, and all in all just trying to be outdoors and enjoying nature. Staying active helps me maintain a healthy lifestyle, which in turn allows me to do many different things.

Being hands on is also something I have found to be important. I find there is no better way to learn something than to do it yourself. Even if I don't get it right the first time, I still learned something to be applied the next time. The more I understand, the better I am at setting expectations, dealing with situations, and generally relating to someone.

This  is why I believe it is important to always continue to learn and improve yourself. Whether it be through travel and immersing yourself in the culture and atmosphere to experience something new or simply pushing yourself outside of your limits by doing something you don't know or makes you slightly uncomfortable. It is important to me to keeping striving to push myself to learn what I am capable. Having this mentality and drive has not only helped me grow within my personal life, but it also carries over into my work. This mindset gives me the ability to take what I learn and experience and apply it to every area of my life. It also doesn't just go one way either, many things I have learned in my professional life can be useful in my personal life, as well as, the opposite. To this day, I am still learning something new almost every day. Even so, I still have many things to learn and I have no intention of stopping any time soon.
