• Assist in planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting recreational and educational activities and outings to enhance or retain the residents’ functionality in the areas of: socialization, interpersonal relationships, self-respect, self-esteem, and self-help.
• Create a safe and cordial atmosphere for residents, visitors, volunteer groups, other departments, and the general public. Coordinate activities with other departments. Maintain working relationships with veteran’s service organizations. Act as a lead worker for volunteers who assist in activities and programs. Instruct assigned volunteers in safety practices and precautions
and local policies.
• Conduct and participate in such program activities as: social parties, dances, dinners, bus/van rides, table games, field trips, clubs, movies, bingo, shopping, bowling, crafts, games, fishing, music, exercise, picnics, gardening, and leisure time spectator activities. Instruct or assist residents individually and in group sessions.
• Provide for transportation/escort needs of residents to and from programs and activities, and for the personal needs and safety of residents while in the activity area. Transfer residents from wheelchairs to bus seats and push wheelchairs as needed. Transport residents to activities using state vehicles.
• Maintain adequate inventory of therapeutic activity supplies and equipment. Select merchandise, supplies, and equipment in advance of scheduled activities. Initiate purchase requisitions for planned activities and supplies. Perform minor housekeeping duties in and around the activity area.
• Observe resident behavior in order to provide information on resident progress, strengths, and needs to immediate supervisor and the multi-disciplinary team. Complete required reports and forms to document resident attendance and participation, unusual incidents or behavior, or accidents. Report unusual behavior, safety concerns, defective equipment, or unsafe housekeeping conditions immediately to the supervisor on duty.
• Participate in staff development by attending established training and educational programs. Attend and participate in various facility meetings to provide information regarding activities, residents’ needs, and residents’ progress.
• Support the facility QAPI efforts by attending all assigned QAPI training; following established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts; participate in PIP teams as assigned; sharing ideas for improvement in the organization; and supporting QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.
• Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to supervisor.
• Use personal protective equipment when required such as gloves, masks, face shield, etc.
• Perform related duties as required.
