Work History

Lobbyist

VCU Focused Inquiry
Richmond, VA
01.2024 - 02.2024
  • I had the distinct honor of participating as a lobbyist, representing the concerns and aspirations of my fellow students. My primary focus was advocating for specific bills currently under legislative consideration, and in this role, I had the invaluable opportunity to speak with a key decision-maker, Betsy Carr.I also aimed to understand the broader context of these bills and their significance within the educational landscape.
  • I crafted clear and compelling arguments that highlighted the importance of these bills, focusing on how they would positively affect student well-being and academic success. It wasn't just about facts; it was about weaving a narrative that resonated with the needs of the student body.
  • I presented the student perspective with confidence. Clear arguments, backed by data and supplemented with personal experiences when relevant, formed the crux of my presentation. But most importantly, I listened. I engaged with Betsy Carr, understanding her perspective and addressing her concerns with an open mind and a commitment to finding common ground.
  • This experience proved to be a valuable training ground for my future endeavors. The skills I honed – research, persuasive communication, building rapport, and adapting on the fly – are cornerstones for success in many professional realms. My participation in Student Day of Action didn't just represent the student voice; it equipped me with the tools to be a more effective advocate for myself and my future goals.

Advocate

Sierra Club Youth Council and Beyound Methane RVA
Richmond, VA
11.2023 - 11.2023
  • Advocated for the creation of a Public Utility Council (PUC) before the Richmond City Council. This initiative, undertaken in partnership with the Sierra Club Youth Council, Beyond Methane RVA, and my Focused Inquiry Class, proved to be a valuable learning experience in civic engagement and advocacy.
  • We delved into the positive impact these councils have on public utilities like gas and water. Transparency, citizen engagement, and informed decision-making emerged as key benefits. Armed with this knowledge, we set about crafting compelling communication materials.
  • I participated in public comment sessions held by the City Council. During these sessions, we passionately advocated for the establishment of a PUC, emphasizing the benefits it would offer to the city's residents.
  • Collaboration was paramount, as we combined the strengths and perspectives of different organizations and individuals. The research skills honed during this project instilled the importance of gathering thorough data and understanding complex issues. But perhaps the most significant takeaway was the power of civic engagement. Witnessing the impact of our collective voice on the decision-making process was truly empowering.
  • It fostered a sense of community and purpose, highlighting the importance of community participation in shaping a more sustainable and informed Richmond. This experience proved invaluable, not only in advocating for a specific policy but also in equipping me with the skills and passion to be a more engaged and effective citizen.
  • Advocating and lobbying proved successful and the measure was passed unanimously

Public Relations Officer

Art Club -Wesley Girls' High School
Cape Coast, Central Region
09.2022 - 09.2023
  • Nurturing a vibrant artistic community within our campus. Through strategic communication and creative initiatives, I strived to bridge the gap between passionate individuals and the world of artistic expression.
  • I developed a comprehensive communication strategy, identifying student organizations, faculty, and local art enthusiasts as key audiences. Social media became a powerful tool. Our Instagram and Facebook pages transformed into vibrant platforms showcasing member artwork, inspiring quotes, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into club activities. Regular updates kept our community engaged and excited.
  • I meticulously designed eye-catching flyers and posters, ensuring they were strategically placed across campus – dorms, student centers, and art buildings became vibrant galleries of upcoming events and exhibitions. Collaborations with other student organizations further expanded our reach, allowing us to co-host events and tap into their networks.
  • Building a strong community was equally important. I organized meet-and-greet events, fostering connections between new and returning members. Our social media platforms and club blog became avenues to celebrate individual talent. Regularly featuring member artwork and profiles served as a source of inspiration and encouraged participation.
