CDL Class A Student. As a new CDL Class A driver, I bring more experience in the door than the average CDL A graduate. At MIM Trucking School, the biggest emphasis was placed on safety. During my five months in school I learned how to properly pre-trip and inspect a tractor-trailer, drive safely through large and small city streets, hook, and unhook trailers, use my trailer sliding tandems, place snow chains on my tires, refill air in my tires using my tractors air system, and safely back a truck and trailer into tight spaces. Outside of driving the truck, I have experience in logistics from being a broker at TQL, where I provided customer service to shippers, and truck drivers, monitored the entire shipping process from check calls, to solving problems drivers had.
City Driver at XPO. At XPO I started out as a City P&D driver picking up and delivering freight in various different customer in the Saint Louis Metro area in regions such as downtown St. Louis, South City, North City, St. Charles, West County and South County. Daily I had an assigned tractor, and typically a different route everyday I clocked in. This gave me the experience of driving 28 foot pups, to 53 foot dry vans to pick up and deliver freight all over the metro area. I also used liftgate trailers to deliver and pickup freight as well. Being a city driver I would often be sent out to swap trailers at various different customers. Deliveries, pickups, and swaps required me to pro freight, sign BOL's, and enter important BOL information into a handheld device. Working in the city I gained well needed experience backing different sized trailers into docks that were tight, had busy street traffic, and required me to use principles such at G.O.A.L and the smith system to successfully complete my maneuvers. As a city driver I would often pickup and deliver Hazmat Freight which would require me to placard my trailer, and understand the different regulations on how to safely transport Hazmat freight.
Linehaul Driver at XPO. For a portion of my time at XPO I was required to work the overnight line haul driver position. working for line haul I learned how to hook doubles, extend my pre-trip to include a dolly, and an extra trailer, and drive in the city and on the interstate pulling double trailers. I also learned how to manage and pay attention to my hours of service clock, making sure that I didn't have any violations.
Linehaul Driver at Sygma. As a Linehaul driver at Sygma, I started my workdays with a pre-trip check, selecting proper equipment, typically a 53-foot reefer trailer. Set my reefer temps based on the load being picked up, and drive to the facility where my load is being picked up. My typical destinations would be Sygma and Sysco warehouses in Florida, Virginia, Ohio, and Michigan, with common pickups being in regions around those states. My job would also include managing my time clock, know when and where to stop, and selecting the best routes to remain on-time for all of my appointments, in a safe manner.
