  • Review business personal property accounts that exceed the established threshold (35k) for review. This process includes making changes to the filed amounts due based on the asset listing provided and communicating the changes to the taxpayer.
  • Review established leasing companies annually to ensure the business personal property return is filed to the correct jurisdiction. Localities reviewed include Henrico County, The City of Richmond, Chesterfield, and Hanover counties. Also, for Henrico County taxpayers, property leased from others is verified annually for the appropriate taxation by the lessor or the lessee.
  • Process “Meal’s tax” payments from Henrico taxpayers. Collection efforts are made and documented on delinquent taxpayers as well.
  • Conduct 30-50 field audits annually. The audits review the current and past three years for business licenses and business personal property filing accuracy.
  • Request and review documentation, which include but are not limited to tax returns, income statements, profit & loss statement, balance sheets and asset listings from taxpayers. A physical visit is made to the business site to verify property findings.
  • Produce and submit audit reports to management for approval.
  • Participate in interviews, perform observations and evaluate pertinent information to supplement audit findings.
