I feel that my 20+ years of experience in the BART Police Department and specifically the RPG unit, have equipped me to learn and handle the duties of Acting Revenue Protection Supervisor if given the opportunity. I have enjoyed my time as an RPG and feel with my years of service I can be an effective RPG supervisor. I feel have a good rapport and working relationship with all my fellow RPGs and would be respected by all if I were to become supervisor. As an FTO I have learned to be respectful in correction of duties and conduct by trainees, complimentary in good job performance by trainees, patient but above all treating each trainee fairly and in accordance with BART PD SOPs and RPG SOPs.
If give the opportunity to become Acting Revenue Protection Supervisor, I feel I can become an even more valued asset to the RPG Unit and the BART Police Department.
Sincerely,
RPG Gabriel Thomas J-255
I provide armed protection of Treasury Personnel during transport and collection of cash and coin from change machines and Clipper Card vending machines at all BART stations.
I also provide armed transport for the collection routes and treasury personnel which includes driving armored truck with semi-tractor trailers and crew transport vans. Driving the armored truck requires maintaining a Class A drivers license and maintaining a clean driving record which I have done so for nearly my whole RPG career.
To provide my armed protection as an RPG I completed a 832 PC arrest and control and firearms course shortly after my RPG employment began and have qualified every six months at our scheduled BART PD firearms training programs during my entire RPG career with both my BPD issued Sig Sauer P320 handgun and BPD shotguns that I mount inside the armored truck if assigned as a truck driver for a shift.
In addition to protecting treasury personnel and cash on collection routes, I also perform armed protection of the Cash Handling Building (CHB). This includes monitoring interior and exterior video cameras of the CHB, safely opening CHB bay doors to allow trailers to be unloaded after the return of the collection route and monitoring entrance of all personnel and ensuring that only credentialed and authorized personnel enter the CHB. Inside the CHB I maintain full inspection and custody of CHB treasury vehicle and personnel keys that unlock Clipper Card vendors and the cash and coin vaults inside them.
During each shift I monitor BPD radio traffic from RPGs on the RPG radio channel as well as the BPD Dispatch channel at all times to ensure safety and security for all treasury and RPG personnel from any location I may be on my shift.
I also maintain truck driver logs, CHB daily time sheet logs, CHB and RPG key issue logs, truck inspection reports and daily RPG rosters.
If I am assigned to open the CHB, I am responsible for providing armed protection of the CHB interior and exterior and also safely disarming the CHB alarm system upon arrival to the CHB and establishing the CHB is safe for daily operation.
If I am assigned to close the CHB, once I ensure all treasury property is secured and all treasury personnel have exited the CHB, I arm the CHB alarm system and make sure the doors and gates to the CHB are locked and secure upon closing the CHB at the end of CHB business for the day.
As a Community Service Assistant (CSA) I provided assistance duties to police personnel and the public throughout the District.
CSA work duties and responsibilities include issuing citations and warnings for parking violations, patrolling parking facilities and assigned areas while monitoring and communicating radio traffic through the BPD Dispatch channel to ensure public safety on and off district property during my shift.
As a CSA I was trained how to properly write Police and Incident reports and how to properly understand and transmit BPD radio traffic. This included memorizing the phonetic alphabet used for radio transmitting and learning the definitions of BPD 10 and 11 codes as well as various emergency and penal codes that are commonly used by police officers and dispatchers.
From my 22 years of experience in the BPD, specifically as a RPG for 20 years, I have a vast knowledge of not only the RPG and CHB operations but also of the BART station system and BART PD operations
I not only have a lengthy experience of being a RPG and performing the duties of guarding and transporting collection routes, I also have over 10 years of experience in performing opening and closing RPG duties, an amount of time most of my co-RPGs in my career haven't had
As an opening and closing RPG I have worked and communicated frequently with RPG Sergeants, BPD Watch Commanders, Vehicle Shops Management and Treasury Management regarding unique situations that have occurred while on opening or closing duties My experience and training have allowed me to handle these situations usually with little difficulty
I have been a RPG Field Training Officer for 10 years and have personally trained more than half of the current RPGs in both guarding while on collection routes as well as opening and closing the CHB I completed weekly evaluation reports and submitted them to my acting supervisor Sergeant, for all my trainees until the completion of their FTO program I fully understand how to evaluate RPGs in how they perform tasks and interact with others during their shifts
I have over 20 years as a RPG Class A truck driver I have maintained a fully clean record and have never had any at fault accidents or citations during my RPG career I have a wide knowledge of not only all the collection routes and station locations, but also alternative ways to be able to complete if detours are needed due to heavy traffic, road closures, safety hazards, etc
Due to my 20 years as a RPG I have been able to give helpful on the job advice not only to co-workers but Sergeants and Treasury management I feel I have given helpful advice, when asked for it, on unique occasions whether it be collection route changes, truck driver knowledge, or staffing solutions for special event service routes
I am one of only 2 RPGs who have access to and understand how to perform Requests For Maintenance (RFMs) in the Maximo system program on the CHB RPG computer I create RFMs for the Oakland Shops when necessary to repair vehicles and also RFMs for repair work that needs to be done for the CHB property
I also am competent in necessary computer skills such as Excel, Word and other commonly used computer programs at BART
