I have spent the past two years at my reserve unit, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion in Alameda, training to become a Reconnaissance Marine. I am working very diligently to learn not only the job skills required of a Reconnaissance Marine but also the character traits and mental skills, such as Stress resilience, Teamwork, and the ability to handle extreme adversity well. As a 0300 Rifleman, I have been taught weapon manipulation techniques, safety handling, basic first aid, And the basics of infantry patrolling and hand-to-hand combat through the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). As a roper at my unit, I have learned about different types of ropes, knots, and the management of both fast roping and helicopter repel suspension techniques. As a Marine, I was expecting to attend the Basic Reconnaissance course. I am held to a very high physical training standard.
