Throughout being both a lifeguard and a sales associate, the biggest takeaway I could identify is how to get along with both guests and coworkers. Its important to respect your coworkers regardless how you feel about them, for the sake of a healthy work environment. It's also important to be mindful when dealing with upset guests and try to view their perspective.
Throughout my time working at Cancun as a lifeguard, I have learned a number of things. I've learned responsibility, an extreme amount of it, being as though I am responsible for people in the pool and my negligence or irresponsibility can do a great deal of damage. Another thing I've learned is how to separate work from friendships, and while getting along with everyone, still understanding that this is a workplace and that is what I am here for. In my 5 months of working at Cancun, I have had 8 saves, one of those being a double save.
Tilly's was a great first job for me. It helped me get out of my comfort zone and talk to people, since all of my work was based around guest interaction. I was able to learn how to best deal with angry guests, shy guests, and help people find what they were looking for.
