As a dedicated Correctional Officer, I have gained valuable experience working in a correctional environment, succeeding in training and operational demands of the role. I began my career by completing “21 Days” training program, which provided hands on exposure to all shifts, including first, second, and third. After successfully passing the required exam, I was assigned to the compound as a Correctional Officer Trainee (COT), where I have since demonstrated a strong work ethic and made great rapport with inmates.
Within the first 2-3 months of working, I was selected to attend the correctional academy for certification. During this time, I successfully passed multiple exams, including:
• Introduction to Corrections
• Communications
• Officer Safety
• Facility Equipment
• Intake and Release
While preparing for high-liability training, I was required to pause my certification in high liability training for the courses of First Aid, Defensive Tactics and Fire Arm Training, due to my pregnancy. Despite this, I remained committed to my role and continued to excel in my responsibilities on the compound. I have since completed mental health training, further expanding my knowledge and capabilities in managing inmate populations with diverse needs.
Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work at Homestead Correctional Institution when the institution needed staff. Here, I gained valuable experience working with female inmates and became well-versed in the distinct policies and procedures that apply to women compared to the male populations.
Although I am not yet certified, I am often entrusted with the responsibilities of a dorm supervisor, appointed by my shift Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Along with the fact that I am frequently working 16-hour shifts has allowed me to gain extensive hands-on experience, making my duties and responsibilities second nature. I am confident in my ability to respond to various situations and maintain clear communication over the radio.
I am proud to have built strong professional relationships and have had the privilege of working alongside exceptional officers and sergeants that have allowed me to put them as references including:
• Angel Miranda ( K- 9 Sergeant ) 305-778-1454
• Richard Jackson ( Sergeant ) 786-637-3818
I remain committed to continuing my growth as a correctional professional and am eager to contribute further to the safety and security of the facility.
