During my Senior year as the lead trombonist for the Florida A&M University Jazz ensemble, we had the privilege to compete against 12 other HBCU jazz bands for a spot to open up for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Not only did FAMU win the spot to open up for the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra, but I also won the award for Best Trombone Section, Most outstanding trombonist, and The Adderley Brothers Outstanding soloist award. The FAMU jazz ensemble also collectively won Best Rhythm section, Best Saxophone section, Best Trumpet section, Outstanding Clarinetist, and Outstanding Guitarist.
As a freshman in college at Northwest Florida State College, I competed with other college musicians From Pensacola State College, University of West Florida, and other colleges/universities, and won the collegiate division in the competition. The competition took place in 2022, at Phineas Phogg's in Pensacola, Florida.
