Work History

Graduate Research Assistant and Thesis Work

University Of Minnesota Duluth
08.2021 - Current
  • Researched and designed new alternative cement using recycled/waste powdered soda-lime glass and aqueous alkali solutions with waste materials classified as alkali activated cement
  • Performed novel, and conventional ASTM, test methods to compare physical and mechanical properties of alkali activated cement to conventional portland cement
  • Adapted MTS Criterion model C43 to record environmental chamber temperature data and advanced load-controlled rate (separate from conventional strain-controlled rate on these test systems)
  • Analyzed chemical composition using X-ray Fluorescence on a Rigaku NEX CG (XRF) in evaluation efforts of recycled and waste materials for use in alternative cements
  • Investigated, as a novice, analytical chemistry techniques for powdered crystallinity on Phillips X'pert MPD Powder X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), cement material decomposition during thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) high temperature exposure, and cement microstructure on Zeiss LSM710 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (SEM).

Graduate Teaching Assistant

University Of Minnesota Duluth
08.2021 - 12.2022
  • Instructed engineering students on metal, polymer and composite materials processing techniques using ASTM standards to prepare and conduct experiments to collect data on mechanical properties
  • Developed and maintained laboratory lessons, fabrication techniques and manufacturing equipment ensuring a smooth learning and teaching experience for upper-class mechanical engineering students
  • Assessed student laboratory reports, looking for concise writing techniques, description of methodologies and presentation of most important results before and after submission for grading
  • Documented standard operating procedures for on newly acquired MTS Criterion C43 electromechanical testing system including testing parameters and machine settings for tensile and compression testing in the mechanical and industrial engineering department.

Material Science Intern

Fabcon Precast
05.2022 - 08.2022
  • Collaborated with coworkers on various projects including an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD’s), like tracking and recording raw materials and sourcing for life cycle analysis (LCA’s)
  • Examined experimental fresh and hardened concrete properties according to industry standards.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

University Of Minnesota Duluth
09.2019 - 05.2021
  • Conducted research to develop cutting edge microfiltration membrane technology for oil-water separation and characterized samples to provide a clear definition of the membranes for publications
  • Identified fused filament fabrication process limitations when creating 3D printed membranes and determined solutions for improvement that in turn achieved a uniform, microporous membrane structure.

Rocket Recovery Committee Lead

Bulldog Rocketry Club
09.2018 - 04.2021
  • Developed a single separation, dual parachute deployment system for a successful rocket recovery from 30,000 feet achieving 2nd place at Intercollegiate Rocketry Engineering Competition in 2019 for solid motors
  • Modified old rocket motor test stand design for more accurate force readings using existing stand and worked with a machinist to produce necessary parts.

3D Printing Technician

University Of Minnesota Duluth
03.2018 - 04.2021
  • Coordinated with engineering senior design team members to create manufacturable parts and prototypes, that are structurally stable while minimizing material used throughout to reduce material and time costs
  • Assisted a UMD professor develop a lab for introduction of additive manufacturing process of 3D printing and to compare injection molded and 3D printed ASTM size IV dog bones.

Interim Manager and Team Member

Menards Inc.
05.2018 - 08.2020
  • Motivated team members to maintain a clean and organized receiving area reducing company labor hours
  • Forklift and Order Picker Certified.
