Mr Birmingham is in the Ink Delivery Systems group and is developing a new ink jet print head referred to as Take a Sip
This print head will be used in a new model of HP printers called Continuous Ink Supply printers
Mr Birmingham’s focus is developing the sensor that monitors print head ink level
On a low level condition, the sensor turns on a 5 V DC pump that refills the print head with ink
The sensor turns this pump off upon reaching its high level setpoint
In addition to the sensor design, Mr Birmingham has worked on the Arduino code and circuit boards that control the pump.
