Board of Education, It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I submit my name for consideration for the position of ____. It is my genuine desire to serve those who make this area an exceptional place to live and work. I plan on utilizing the leadership qualities that have been instilled in me throughout my years of experience in public education. It was during my junior year pursuing my undergraduate degree at Concordia College when I discovered that teaching is my passion, and this passion still burns inside my soul. After thirty-four years of being a dedicated science instructor, I have felt the need to change my career path. I want to use my skills and leadership abilities to benefit a higher-reaching target. I can be an effective agent for an organization's path to success in your institution. Throughout my career, I have worked mainly in small school districts both in Texas and Nebraska. My experience at Sutton Public Schools and Hampton Public School underpins my unwavering commitment to improvement and student success. Throughout the years I have always pursued research-based strategies to advocate a challenging, but efficient learning environment. The transformational power of education on struggling students serves as both a pedagogical driver and a motivational source for other challenges. In my current capacity, I have undertaken various leadership roles, including chairing committees and coaching extracurricular activities such as Quiz Bowl, Basketball, Robotics, and Drones. These experiences have honed my organizational and managerial skills while fostering collaboration and mentorship. I am enthusiastic about expanding it further to influence a larger and farther-reaching educational landscape. Teamwork promotion, facilitation of professional growth as well as continued organizational excellence are some aspects that underline my leadership urge. Looking ahead, I am committed to pursuing ongoing professional development opportunities to refine my leadership and stay abreast of emerging trends in education. I am eager to contribute to the continued success of your institution and look forward to discussing how my skills and experiences align with your vision for educational leadership. Thank you for your time and consideration., Gary D Richards

Philosophy Of Leadership

  • Leadership and Culture, During any small group classroom interactions, or meetings between peers, my goal is always the same; inclusiveness and cooperation. I have consistently advocated for and cultivated a culture grounded in the principles of family, inclusiveness, and teamwork. Understanding the profound impact of organizational culture on the success of educational institutions, I have prioritized initiatives aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and cohesion among students, faculty, and stakeholders alike.
  • Policy and Governance, The efficiency of a school is intrinsically tied to the clarity and enforcement of its policies. School policy is the foundation of school leadership. Within a school, both educators and coaches must establish clear expectations for students, athletes, participants, and parents alike. By making sure that these expectations are clear, many potential issues can be eliminated early in the process with this clarity.
  • Communications and Community Relations, A principal should act as a liaison between the school and the community by being able to clearly articulate the school's mission and vision and by being involved in community activities. One of the most valuable aspects of the term, 'community' is the desire to be involved with the school. It will be my job to leverage the expertise of our community members to help better serve and educate our kids.
  • Organizational Management, The primary role of a principal in the 21st century must be instructional leadership. State standards are in place that need to be the focus of a school's intentional direction. That said, my objective would be to ensure the timely completion of deadlines, facilitate effective communication, implement streamlined systems that minimize distractions, and lead the way for the school system to exceed the national college and career readiness standards that are in place.
  • Instructional Management, Since the goal of our teachers is to provide quality instruction that challenges and prepares our students, it is my role as an instructional leader to offer guidance and suggestions through formal and informal evaluations. Through my classroom experiences, I have been involved in a school system that integrates the Marzano Framework. It facilitates the implementation of clear, research-supported strategies in every classroom, daily. I believe it is foundational to enhancing students' experiences and learning outcomes in a school district.
  • Human Resources Management, One of the most important jobs that any principal has is hiring the right people. Since the primary indicator of student success is their teacher, it falls on the administration to make quality hires that benefit students and improve school culture and climate. With the looming teacher shortage, it is important to create a welcoming culture at a school and harvest the best candidates possible for a position.
  • Values and Ethics of Leadership, Simply put, the three values that I will give to all stakeholders of a district are service, trust, and commitment. I pride myself in holding these three values as the core of what I do and who I am. If we believe school is not just a place for academic progress but also a place to grow in character and integrity, teachers and administrators need to lead the way in this regard.
