Portal crane operator daily responsibilities : Daily walk around inspection of the crane for safety and maintenance issues . Report all problems to foreman, unloads log trucks entering the mill assuring truck drivers are out of trucks with proper PPE while being unloaded. Place logs into log storage areas as well as feed logs onto conveyor to feed chipping mill.
Daily maintaining the chip inventory, transferring chips from truck chip dump, rail chip cars, and the chip mill. Assuring chip species are not mixed or coss-contaminated; using multiply belt conveyors transporting wood chips to designated inventor piles.;maintaining bark inventory to be burned in power house.;use of computers to monitor bark load rates, bearing temps, e- stops,and bindicators.
Daily operation of wheel loaders (cat 930,950,980 ,etc.) ; maintaining woodyard roads, dead stacking bark to maintain inventory to bake piles, moving log debris to disposal piles, pushing rail cars for chip unloading, feeding bin conveyors with chip and bark to maintain chip inventor to paper mill and bark to power house boilers.
Responsible for receiving wood chip rail cars from railroad, blue flag removal, car numbers recorded, brakes released and cars spotted on rail dumper; operation of rail switches, taking chip samples, basic housekeeping.
Daily operation of various equipment: furnaces, impact mills, cage mills, and roller mills; perform control room samples of finished product for moisture and residue contents to meet quality control requirements; load crush clay into surge bin to feed screw conveyors to rail cars and crush bags.
