Total patient care of Emergency department patients.

Triage patients on arrival, assign acuity, notify charge RN, physician and/or begin NIOS-nurse initiated order sets, as indicated.

Assess, then treat patient per order. Reassess and notify Dr of changes in patient status. Keep patient and family updated regarding their care and approximate timeline for emergency department stay.

I would give detailed patient and family teaching regarding diagnosis and treatment during and at end of stay, whether patient is discharged home, admitted or transferred to another facility.

  • Administered medications via oral, IV, sub Q, intramuscular injections, anesthetize wounds and monitored responses.
  • Collaborated with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while managing rapidly changing conditions.

I have been active in the trauma program and have served as the trauma coordinator for a period of time. I have been a preceptor for multiple students from EMT basics to paramedic, nursing students and new staff.

Dallas is a small community hospital with a 4 bed ER when I started and on nights I worked with a tech and a Dr so had total responsibility for patients from arrival to discharge, including triage assessment, treatment, reassess then disposition.

I participated in ongoing professional development via mandatory classes and certifications. I initially obtained my CEN-certified Emergency Nurse in 1996.
