Accomplished Registered Nurse with extensive experience showing compassionate care to all patients and making them feel comfortable in the hospital as demonstrated by Daisy nominations and patient, family letters, comments. Skilled in all areas of nursing procedures and assistance with procedures with LIP. I have a proven track record of enhancing patient outcomes through effective patient and family teaching and collaboration with healthcare team. Actively engaged in professional development.
Total patient care of Emergency department patients.
Triage patients on arrival, assign acuity, notify charge RN, physician and/or begin NIOS-nurse initiated order sets, as indicated.
Assess, then treat patient per order. Reassess and notify Dr of changes in patient status. Keep patient and family updated regarding their care and approximate timeline for emergency department stay.
I would give detailed patient and family teaching regarding diagnosis and treatment during and at end of stay, whether patient is discharged home, admitted or transferred to another facility.
I have been active in the trauma program and have served as the trauma coordinator for a period of time. I have been a preceptor for multiple students from EMT basics to paramedic, nursing students and new staff.
The first year I worked on the medical-surgical unit, then moved to Emergency department exclusively. Dallas is a small community hospital with a 4 bed ER when I started and on nights I worked with a tech and a Dr so had total responsibility for patients from arrival to discharge, including triage assessment, treatment, reassess then disposition.
I participated in ongoing professional development via mandatory classes and certifications. I initially obtained my CEN-certified Emergency Nurse in 1996.
