KFSH&RC-J is a 385 bed tertiary care specialist hospital serving the needs of the community in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia. The mission of KFSH&RC-J is to be committed as a leader in promoting health, research, and education for the well-being of patients, staff, and the community.

KFSH&RC-J provides tertiary services to the eligible dependents and their families. KFSH&RC-J opened in 2000 and was accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2002, with the most recent successful accreditation in 2021. KFSH&RC-J was accredited for their achievement of Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2013, and re-accredited in April 2018. KFSH&RC-J was also re-accredited by the Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions in February 2022. Baby Friendly Hospital Accreditation in 2021.

Unit Description

The NICU unit is registered for 15 beds, delivering care for Level I up to Level V patient acuity. Patient profile include premature and term neonates from Labor & Delivery and patients that are referred from surrounding hospitals in the western region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for cardiac and general surgery.

Working hours is a number of 44 hours per week, as required.

  • Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC) formerly known as Riyadh Military Hospital is located in Riyadh City, the capital of Saudi Arabia, considered as one of the most advanced center in the Middle East. It is the flagship of the PSMMC Program and the Medical Services Department (MSD) of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation (MODA). PSMMC was officially inaugurated in 1978 and since then, it has grown tremendously with a capacity of about 1500 beds.

Unit Description

  • The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary center for babies at the edge of viability. It is composed of 91 beds and subdivided into 3 areas, Intensive Care Unit (Level III) 32 beds, High Dependency Unit 1 (Level II) 25 beds, High Dependency Unit 2 (Level II) 34 beds. It is a very busy and progressively advancing center which provides neonatal care to eligible patients at the Prince Sultan Military Medical City. It also accepts referrals from other hospitals for specialized management from other hospitals. Average admission is about 1000 babies annually.

Job Description

The NICU nurse is responsible for the provision of nursing care that meets competency standards including individual accountability for actions within the scope practices and framework. The NICU Level III nurse handles complex neonatal medical problems.

  • Delivered holistic care for infants less than 29 weeks and below 1000 grams.
  • Attended high risk deliveries and other emergencies as an autonomous Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified, ensuring neonates receive quality, safe, and effective advanced resuscitation.
  • Delivered excellent nursing care, monitor and maintain standards of care for neonates with invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support (High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation, Mechanical Ventilation, Nitric Oxide Therapy, and CPAP).
  • Performed nursing care including calculating, administering, documenting and evaluating the effects of drug and fluid therapies in accordance with the policies and procedures.
  • Initiated blood transfusions and volume expanders as clinically indicated and ordered.
  • Assisted in insertion/withdrawal of umbilical catheters, which require suturing, sampling from indwelling umbilical catheters.
