  • As a lead paramedic for U.S. Army EMS at Fort Eisenhower, I oversee shift operations and the works of EMTs (GS6) and paramedics (GS7) working during my shift. I help ensure that patient care aligns with the established protocols, standards, and best-practices outlined by the United States Departments of the Army and Air Force and EMS Chief. My goal each shift is to ensure that all staff under my guidance meet the overall mission of U.S. Army EMS and Fort Eisenhower. For example, I plan shift work to be accomplished by myself and subordinates, manage issues that arise, and identify training needs based on direct observations and the like. I remain flexible at all times and take advantage of teachable moments in the field for best outcomes (i.e., patient, staff, scene, and so forth). I lead by example while demonstrating my competencies and skills in way that serves as an example for others.
  • As a training officer, I provide continuing education units to all personnel assigned to the ambulance section and department. I hold a Georgia EMS and EVOC Instructor Certifications, which are used to the fullest to ensure compliance relating to our education program. Training courses are tailored according to personnel’s mission essential duties and licensure levels. Additionally, training opportunities reflect changes in regulations, standards, innovations, technological advances, and recommendations of the EMS Medical Director and Chief. Courses offered are crafted with considerations of resources, diverse learning styles, section/department needs, and the like. I assist EMTs (GS6), paramedics (GS7), and other lead paramedics (GS8) with meeting the training needs of their license. Furthermore, I assist personnel through the Georgia and National Registry renewal process, which holding an active license at their level of practice is one of many conditions of employment. I conduct ongoing research for professional growth and to provide staff with robust training opportunities that reflect current issues that impact U.S. Army EMS and the medical arenas. Whenever it is option, I coordinate with other departments for joint training opportunities, such as mass casualty events, with the intentions of training to readiness. Also, as an EVOC instructor, I provide staff emergency vehicle operator’s courses (initial, annual, or remedial) that combines classroom instruction and practical applications regarding the safe operations and upkeeps of our emergency vehicles. EVOC topics include defensive and offensive driving techniques that align with Georgia laws and rules outlined by U.S. Army EMS.
  • As a Georgia and National Registry Paramedic, I naturally inherited all of basic and advanced life care duties within the prehospital emergency care arena. A key duty as a licensed paramedic include providing an array of basic and advanced emergency care to patients experiencing medical and trauma types of emergencies. Some of those duties as a paramedic include but are not limited to:
  • Conducts comprehensive patient assessments using an array of advanced knowledge and skills
  • Assists with moving, lifting, carrying, and transferring patients to ambulances and medical treatment facilities
  • Performs safety and shift checks on assigned emergency vehicles to ensure the unit is in response mode
  • Executes cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intravenous insertion, endotracheal intubation, drug administration, 12-lead EKGs, C-Spine/Full body immobilization, splint to fractures, wound care treatments, airway management techniques, oxygen therapy, and a plethora of other essential BLS/ALS interventions
  • Monitors patient’s neuro status for changes
  • Obtains vital signs to include capnography (when indicated), temperature, and blood glucose analysis for all age groups
  • Documents all aspects of care rendered to patients on the patient care report
  • Effectively communicates with patients, family members, peers, supervisors, command teams, bystanders, first responders, law enforcement officers, doctors, nurses, and the like

Part Time Paramedic

  • As a part time Paramedic, I respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured. My addition duty include transporting the patient to a medical facility as outlined by state law and local Medical Director. I ongoing train and uses technical equipment, including ventilators to assist breathing, cardiac monitor to detect cardiac rhythms that need intervention, and defibrillators to treat heart failure in order to resuscitate and stabilize patients. I carry out certain surgical procedures when necessary, such as intubation, administers intravenous drips, medications that indicated, and oxygen. As a Paramedic, I also performs patient assessment, advanced life support, administers first aid and/or CPR; in addition to aggressive medical intervention care if deemed necessary. I performs communication with dispatch, keeps dispatch informed and if necessary, and request additional assistance or special rescue. I prepares reports, completes medical/patient reports, and provides/assists training. I standby on fire scenes for medical aide when needed and support during firefighting operations and training. I Inspect assigned apparatus and equipment; cleans and performs routine maintenance on same. I clean and sterilizes the interior of the ambulance and restocks all supplies missing, used or expired. I perform housekeeping, building maintenance, and ground keeping duties at my assigned duty station.

  • As a part time Firefighter-2 and Paramedic, I performed a variety of firefighting, basic and advance life saving interventions and response to Hazardous materials situations. Some of my duties include: responding to alarms for all classes of fires, to include radioactive and/or hazardous materials, medical emergencies, rescue operations, wild land/brush fires, and aircraft emergencies. Upon arriving on any incident, I perform a thorough and accurate scene size up identifying safety issues and position the apparatus / ambulance in the best location depending on assignment. I took into account applicable factors such as pre-planned instructions, hydrant locations, exposure (s), wind direction, overhead obstructions, terrain, and rescue equipment. As a Paramedic, I respond and provide medical care to persons involved in accidents and other emergencies to include injuries and illness.
  • I conduct complete examinations of patients to determine the nature, extent and seriousness of their conditions while deciding on the appropriate treatment and hospital (when applicable - ie.. trauma, stroke center). I identify maintenance issues on emergency vehicles, apparatus and firefighting/medical equipment by conducting daily check offs.   • I ensure that my care provided to each patient is appropriate, within my scope, abide by current protocols and guidelines, and in a timely manner. Train constantly to ensure my skills up to date. I train ongoing to respond appropriately to emergencies involving fire suppression, medical emergencies, hazardous materials or special rescues, and to provide support for fire prevention efforts. My role varies depending on my assignment (ambulance versus apparatus); however, we serve the citizens of our county and surrounding with an all hazard approach. Respond using an all hazard approach to emergency and non emergency calls, serving the citizens of McDuffie County; in addition, to mutual aid agreements with the surrounding counties. I also operate fire apparatus, hydraulic tools, rescue vehicles and tools / appliances applicable to the emergency situation. I also utilize scene safety and awareness at all times.   • Hired on initially as an EMT-Intermediate while finishing my paramedic training. While working as an EMT, provided appropriate care within the Georgia EMT scope of practice. Shortly after obtaining my paramedic license, I was promoted to Lieutenant. While leading by example, I ensured that our shift was managed smoothly and patient care met the standards in the areas of medical, trauma, and other related fields.
