  • As a dayworker on the Apache I am responsible for daily rounds of the engineering spaces, taking readings and ensuring normal conditions and reporting any abnormalities to the licensed watch engineer
  • When preparing to get underway or returning to port I assist with connecting/disconnecting potable water, shore power and sewage lines
  • I am also responsible for taking on potable water as well as properly discharging sewage both in port and at sea
  • I have done some fabrication using hand tools such as cutting and grinding wheels as well as some welding
  • Acid cleaning SSDG's
  • Prepare zincs for SSDG's by turning on the lathe and threading.

  • As a watchstander on the Arctic my primary responsibility was making outside rounds of all machinery spaces and pump rooms, ensuring all conditions were normal
  • Pumping bilges, containment areas and sewage as necessary
  • My overtime was spent doing some fabrication work as well as preservation work
  • I also assisted electricians with SAMMS.

  • On the Mt
  • Whitney I stood watches on both the boiler and engine sides
  • On the boiler side I would assist in the light off of the plant, check salinity levels, cut in and out burners and switch out fuel burn rods as necessary
  • On the engine side I would take reading on the evaporators, testing the salinity levels on a regular basis
  • I would also make outside rounds ensuring all auxiliary engineering spaces were in normal condition and taking readings on refrigeration equipment, pumping bilges, and sewage as necessary
  • During my time on the Mt
  • Whitney, I did all my overtime with the electricians as the ship was in the process of switching all lighting from fluorescent to LED
  • Some welding as projects came up.

  • I was brought to the Comfort in preparation to deploy to Puerto Rico for Hurricane Irma
  • I was a watchstander on the auxiliary side making rounds and taking readings of all auxiliary engineering spaces, as well as the hospital and surgical wards
  • I would shift potable water tanks and pump sewage and bilges as needed
  • I also often operated the ships incinerators for overtime
  • While on the Comfort I was tasked with fabricating a separate drain line for a large air flask
  • This required fitting approximately 38 feet of ½ inch steel piping through 3 decks using a magnet drill, a pipe threader with various fittings to parallel the adjacent air flask drain line to the bilge.

  • As a dayworker on the Kanawha, I was responsible for potable water, sewage and plumbing systems throughout the ship
  • I acid washed evaporators and jacket water coolers
  • During the ships VR period I assisted the 2nd a/e with pulling, cleaning, and testing fuel injectors on main engines as well the ships SSDG'S (refer to evaluation dated May 2017)
  • Operated and maintained ships incinerator
  • Fabricated chemical storage racks.

  • As a watchstander I was responsible for the readings in the engine room as well as outside rounds, including shifting fill and suction on potable water and pumping sewage as necessary
  • During my time on the Ponce, I did all my overtime working with the electricians, assisting with everything from changing light bulbs, assisted the electrician with changing brushes on the ship's generators, servicing battle lanterns among other things.

  • I was co-owner of Key West Fun Rentals from July 2003 until we sold the business in October 2010
  • We were a scooter rental company, and I was responsible for the day-to-day management of the company requiring me to maintain daily records or all transactions using computer-based software such as QuickBooks as well as hiring and training employees
  • In 2005 I was able to expand the business from our original location to two other locations due to contacts with hotel management and concierges
  • I also created and maintained the company's website using FrontPage
  • My employees were responsible for correctly filling out contracts, maintaining daily sales logs and giving safe instruction to our customers
  • I was responsible for all repairs on the equipment such as scooters, 3-wheel scoot cars and bicycles
  • I mention this to show my ability to use computers, my command of written and oral communication, as well as an ability to troubleshoot problems and demonstrate a mechanical aptitude.

  • In January of 1985 I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy as an Engineman second class
  • I served on two Spruance class destroyers (gas turbine) as a part of 'A gang' responsible for all auxiliary equipment and small boats
  • At the time of my discharge, I was 'top watch' in the main auxiliary machinery space
  • This position would be like a 3rd A/E supervising an EU or UJE making rounds and taking readings.
