Regional HR Manager for the Africa Region

  • Since January 2023, Gerald Duma is the Regional HR Manager for the Africa Region at the World Bank’s Human Resources Division. As a human resources executive with three decades of international leadership, Gerald manages the World Bank’s Africa Region HR team that supports Africa Region’s Regional Management Team attract, develop, and support the World Bank’s global workforce operating out of more than 40 offices on the African continent (Sub-Saharan region).
  • As Africa Region’s Regional HR Manager, Gerald is a member of the region’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the highest decision-making body in the region responsible for the management of the World Bank’s relations with 44 countries and oversees a portfolio of projects worth more than $100 billion, and a wide range of analytical work and technical assistance.
  • The SLT is also responsible for leading a diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (around 3500 staff including 110 managers in 44 countries in Africa and HQ, in Washington, DC) delivering innovative strategies and operations in a Middle-Income Countries, Low Income Countries —including in Fragile and Conflict-affected Countries.
  • As member of the SLT Gerald provides strategic input to the SLT on talent management and ensuring alignment between Africa Region and the Human Resources vision to maintain the World Bank Group’s status as a global leader and the best place to work in international development by attracting top talent, developing talent, and strategically deploying talent to meet our clients’ greatest needs. Other HR areas of strategic input to the SLT include Employment Policy, Compensation and Benefits, Performance Management, and Total Rewards.
  • Prior to his role in Africa, Gerald was the HR Manager for the Sustainable Development & Infrastructure Practice Groups, as well as the Latin American and Caribbean and Europe and Central Asia Regions. In this capacity, his team provided HR support and advisory services for approximately 3,000 staff and Managers.
