  • Mechanic Leader for the HVAC and Plumbing department, responsible for the day-to-day operations, installation, overhaul, and maintenance of all HVAC refrigeration systems and plumbing in the NAVSEA building facilities, ensuring that parts and materials are properly inventoried, specified, requisitioned, and used with a minimum of waste by assigned personnel
  • Supervise the HVAC and Plumber mechanics
  • Coordinate with other departments such as the Electricians, Carpenters, Fire Department, Security, and Civil Engineers to perform system maintenance and repairs
  • Provide excellent service to all our customers on base
  • Display an exceptional ability to learn new methods rapidly and adapt quickly to changing times and situations, have taken initiative to learn the MAXIMO system to assign work orders and labor entries for each HVAC and Plumber mechanic assigned to the department, to ensure preventative maintenance, routine and emergency calls, and projects are completed in a timely manner
  • Plan, schedule, and assign work accordingly to ensure proper distribution of workload, adequate staffing, and space for efficient performance of duties, using verbal communications, computer, reading, writing, scheduling, technical, purchasing, interpreting, protocol, and diplomacy to get job done
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheet, OT, work plan, and coordinate with other departments
  • Coordinate with supervisors for OT/comp time earned for approval
  • Keep accurate documentation and complete records on each personnel assigned to department
  • Coordinate maintenance work assignments among staff to maintain work progress, meet schedules, and complete assignments in a timely fashion
  • Devised a method to streamline time/unit/man hour workload for effective time usage
  • Thoroughly explain procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives to others performing maintenance work
  • Ensure yearly, ongoing training for the mechanics, which includes safety, EMS pneumatic, DDC controls, and various other training as needed or if the situation calls for
  • Conduct project planning and implementation, staffing, budget formulation and control
  • Plan work assignments, assess training needs, oversee inventory, and order supplies and materials
  • Plan and direct staffing, training, and performance
  • Coordinate with NAVSEA faculty, staff and on base vendors for HVAC systems shutdowns whether for emergency or routine yearly maintenance
  • Assist with a seasonal schedule for turning on and shutting down HVAC units in the designated buildings
  • Attend supervisor meetings to discuss the day's work and any projects at hand, and when necessary, relay information to crew of workers
  • Work closely with technicians and maintenance mechanics, supporting them in any and every way to ensure NAVSEA building(s) continues to run smoothly and efficiently
  • And improved open communication between all superiors, workers, and staff members
  • Supervise, direct, train and assist team of eight HVAC Technicians in corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance for all building air handlers, VAV boxes, CRAC units, BARD wall mounts, exhaust fans, perimeter building ductless split air conditioners, heat pumps and package units, scheduled work hours and resolved conflicts
  • Lead and assist mechanics at various work sites and assess independent installation, maintenance requirements, prepare work orders, and follow up on completed jobs
  • Assist with the removal of old or defective HVAC equipment/systems, and installation of new HVAC equipment/systems
  • Monitor and evaluate work performed independently by assigned mechanics
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping rules are followed by both HVAC and Plumber mechanics
  • Remind mechanics team of safety instructions daily, before heading out to the job site, on the proper use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, helmets, ear muffs/plugs, safety shoes, etc.), scaffolding, ladders, harness above six feet, fire hazards, handling high/low voltage current, and equipment operation safety such as JLG-lift, areal platform lift and forklift
