• CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY: -Follow the laboratory procedures for bacteriology specimen handling and processing, test, analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results

- Conduct preparation of smears (liquid suspension, solid media, specimen) for gram staining, India ink, Acid Fast Stain (Cold AFB), metachromatic granule stain

- Conduct media preparation – brain-heart infusion with PABA and agar, thioglycollate broth, tryptic soy broth, blood agar/ chocolate agar/ nutrient agar

- Conduct coagulase test/ optochin test/ bacitracin solubility test/ bile solubility test

- Conduct cultures for bacteria identification of common pathogens and sensitivity testing

- Operate the BactALERT 240 and BACTEC 9050 machine for blood cultures and BIOMERIEUX API for automatic identification and sensitivity

- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies

- Maintain complete records of all testing performed on site

- Make sure that reagents/ test kits have received dates, expiration dates and if applicable opened dates

- Follow laboratory’s procedure in reporting STATs or critical results to clients

• SEROLOGY AND BLOOD BANKING: - Perform blood typing tests (forward and reverse), Rh typing, Coomb’s Crossmatching, Coomb’s Test (direct and indirect), compatibility testing.

- Perform blood donor screening for HIV, HCV, HBsAg, RPR/VDRL, and malarial smear.

- Perform other serologic procedures such as ANA test (Anti-Nuclear Antibodies), ASO (Anti-Streptolysin O antibodies, quantitative and qualitative method), RA test for detection of rheumatoid factor.

- Can operate on SORVALL RC 3C PLUS and SORVALL RC-4 refrigerated centrifuge for preparation of blood components i.e. platelet concentrates, packed RBCs and other blood components.

- Can operate GRIFOLS DG therm incubator and GRIFOLS DG and OrthoWorkstation Spin centrifuge for crossmatching

Using GRIFOLS DG GEL Coomb’s and GRIFOLS DG GEL and Ortho Gel System Confirm for blood typing.

• HEMATOLOGY/COAGULATION: – Perform cell counts i.e. CBC, reticulocyte count, procedures to detect abnormalities in hemostasis (bleeding time, coagulation time, clotting time), LE cell preparation, ESR determination, LAP score and cell counts of other body fluids

- Can operate on the following machines for hematology for CBC determination (CELL-DYN 3500R and SIEMENS ADVIA 120 & 2120i, ABX Micros 60 and ABX Pentra 60, Sysmex XS 1000i, Sysmex XN Series, Cellavision)

-For coagulation determination like Prothrombin time and APTT (HEMACLOT DUO, Stago Compact Max, Stago Star Max, Sysmex CA-500, Sysmex CA-620, BIOMERIEUX OPTION 4 PLUS)- For D- dimer – Alere Triage machine

• CLINICAL MICROSCOPY: – Perform urinalysis, fecalysis, amoeba determination, urine sugar determination, seminal fluid analysis, urine hemosiderin determination, pregnancy test HCG titer, Bence-Jones proteins, urine sodium/potassium and others

  - Can operate on ARKRAY AUTION ELEVEN AE-4020, Clinitek Status, Clinitek Novus, Clinitek Advantus and IF1000 for automated chemical, pH, blood, leukocytes, specific gravity and microscopic determination

• CLINICAL CHEMISTRY: - Perform blood chemistry analysis and examination, kidney function test, liver function test, enzyme determination, blood gas determination, electrolyte determination, 24-hour urine collection for blood chemistry tests

- Perform thyroid panel, tumor markers, hepatitis panel analysis

- Can operate on the following machines for blood chemistry analysis: Roche Cobas Series,  VITROS 250/560, SIEMENS Dimension Xpand Plus ,SIEMENS Diemension EXL, Beckmann Access ,HITACHI 902 (ROCHE),ALCYON 300 (lipid, total protein)AVL 9180 Electrolyte Analyzer & SPOTCHEM EL SE-1520 (Na+, K+, Ca++, urine Na+),DREW DS5 for HbA1c,Map Lab Plus and A.L.S. Biochemicals (ALS-2000) spectrophotometer machines for manual procedures
