For my minor in Psychology, I am currently taking Research in Clinical Psychology, where we do a student driven Research project and presentation. We are currently studying the effect that viewing political media, specifically in the context of this year's presidential election, has on your mental health, and how powerlessness and emotional regulation skills could potentially mediate that effect. We are set to present this research at a conference in NYC in December.
As Facilities Manager I am responsible for both the digital and film areas, and any students who use them. While professors are responsible for instruction, I was available for anyone who needed extra help with learning techniques and using the equipment. I am also responsible for replacing expired chemicals, cleaning the enlarger areas, and keep paper and inks stocked.
This work is entirely online and dependent on the course of the class. I work with AccessAbility services to anonymously provide thorough notes for students who have accommodations or may not be able to take notes. I take notes on on the content taught and upload them to a shared Google Drive before the end of the unit where the notes are then shared with the student(s). Currently I am taking notes for my film photography class.
As a cashier I have expert knowledge on the products we sell and our computer systems. I display strong customer service skills, making the customer feel welcome while helping them move productively through the store. I have assisted with stocking and maintenance, as well as volunteered to travel to another location to assist in counting stock.
For a short period of time in between jobs I took on the role of Artist Assistant at a local glassblowing studio. With some glass experience, I was able to assist the guest artists with demonstrations, keep maintenance and stock up supplies, help organize public events, and work in the gallery with sales if needed.
This internship introduced me to the processes involved in maintaining a productive work environment in the arts. This was and novice version of the Photography Facilities Management position in the fall of 2024. I was strictly in the digital end of the department, and this included working with students on projects, printing, stocking products, and taking promotional photos for the art department during gallery openings and other events.
Research was done on the discourse and visual implications around horror in video games, specifically the gendered, racial, and religious demographics of the characters and how they interact. These demographics were studied longitudinally across one specific game: Resident Evil.
I reached out to the Wind Ensemble Director during my spring semester of 2024 to photograph a concert they were hosting (was an singular event). I was working independently, maintaining contact with the Director and listening to his desires. I met with him beforehand, then set up early, took photos during and after the event, and edited them and shared them with him. My photos were shared promotionally on the Hartwick College Instagram page and website.
As a customer service associate I worked at the front end of the restaurant, taking orders, serving pastries and some drinks, and maintaining cleanliness in the dining room. I received great exposure with customer experience, productivity, and communication. I also learned how to run the drive-thru and prepare and serve some food. Learning multitasking and enthusiasm simultaneously was one of the main takeaways from this job. I went to another location (Kingston, NY) to work for the summer of 2022 and 2023.
This job gave me the opportunity to work one on one with customers, and my customer service had a real influence on business. I learned how to interact with customers in productive ways, make sales with the customer leaving happy, and keep stock organized in ways that maximized hastiness. I received commission for my sales, and I was a top seller on most weekends. I also had experience with receiving and accepting deliveries, counting stock, and working with customers over the phone.
