Giselle Mejia-Fuentes

As a cashier helper and store team member, I developed strong customer service skills by assisting shoppers, bagging groceries, and keeping the store organized and welcoming. I learned how to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, communicate clearly with customers and coworkers, and stay positive under pressure. In my role as an afterschool care and office worker, I supported students with homework, supervised activities, and helped with office tasks like filing and answering phones. These experiences taught me how to multitask, be dependable, and connect with people of all ages—skills that have prepared me to succeed in any professional setting.

I was able to earn 8 different scholarships by stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging myself in new ways. Instead of staying quiet or holding back, I took the initiative to apply for opportunities, speak up about my goals, and share my story. I worked hard to keep my grades up, stayed involved in my community, and made sure to showcase my dedication to my future. By pushing myself to try new things and not being afraid to fail, I proved to myself—and others—that I’m capable of much more than I thought. Each scholarship I received is a reflection of the growth, effort, and courage it took to believe in myself.
