From a young age, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others heal. Growing up as a first-generation college student, I watched my parents face health challenges with courage, which sparked my passion for medicine and a desire to serve others before myself. Collegiate athletics taught me lessons that extend far beyond the court. As a volleyball player and former team captain, I traveled across Texas and out of state for competitions, often playing multiple games a day over three-day tournaments. Along the way, I endured two knee surgeries, spending nearly a year in recovery. Those experiences were as much mental battles as physical ones; learning to push past pain, frustration, and self-doubt taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of believing in the unseen work behind every achievement.
Balancing rigorous academics as a biology major while maintaining peak athletic performance honed my time management, perseverance, and critical thinking. Volunteering and engaging with my community has allowed me to step into leadership roles, use my voice, and mentor others, shaping me into a humble and compassionate individual. Every challenge I’ve faced, from navigating college as the first in my family, to balancing sports, academics, and recovery, has reinforced a simple truth: hard work and empathy create lasting impact. My goal is to carry these lessons into the medical field as a physician assistant in surgery, helping patients overcome obstacles, regain hope, and feel whole again.
